Used to be much better in the past, the waiter insisted that we take the most expensive specials on the menu but didn't notify us that they are not included in the happy hour pricing. Very hit and miss regarding the food. A few dishes were very good and a few were terrible
Edit: due to the owners response, i would like to clarify. I used to work in the area and eat here regularly. 1-2 times a week and the level of service has clearly changed for the worse
Some dishes were really good - the sabiche for example but we also ordered the fish with spinach which was a special dish highly recommended by the waiter. But apparently our definition of amazing is different from his which is fine in yet the spinach which is part of the aide dishes was inedible, truly terrible and far from what I'm used to in this place.
The waiter was told and he couldn't care less just said oh really so can I take your plate? It was obvious by his recommendations that he cared only to push the more expensive dishes and not less us know that they are specials and not part of the happy hour deals. I don't care much about deals and happy hours and I'm happy to pay full price, just don't appreciate the weaseling the waiter did to nickel and dime us and increase our spend. I'm not the one to go out of my way to complain but Obviously it was reflected in his tip and in this review Another fish we ordered was the calamari with onions which wasn't prepared well. Also notified the waiter on this case and again just mentioned that most people like it or some ambiguous answer.
I agree No one forced us to take anything and it was from our own free will and we didnt ask for any type or sort of compensation, discount or anything of that sort those should be given of your own free will, not demanded by me. If you haven't trained your staff to be mindful of the customer do not be surprised when less than happy reviews come your way as you failed to deal with their concerns while they were guests at your place. You need to improve and you...
Read moreArrived with family. Ordered a range of starters including ceviche which was just okay but had very little fish, tacos that were dry.
Ordered a whole sea bream on the grill as was written in the menu. The sea bream arrived soaked in oil, fried on the outside and raw on the inside.
Upon notifying the waitress she called the shift manager who arrived and explained that the sea bream is cooked on a hot plancha plate and not an actual grill.
I explained that it was not as ordered, as the menu clearly said Grill to which she responded that the menu does not specifically say "Grill".
I asked her to retrieve the menu, which she did, at which time she saw that the menu explicitly said "Grill" upon which she said that it is infact the same thing whilst raising her voice at us.
My wife (a chef herself) explained that the fish was raw inside and fried on the outside and that instead of arguing the shift manager as the representative of the restaurant in charge at that time should find a solution as opposed to arguing and raising her voice, to which she responded that it was I who raised my voice, which is simply not true, rude, unaccommodating and unprofessional.
At this time I realized that nothing was being done with the raw fish on my plate and I offered the manager the plate and stated that I was not interested in having it.
Only at this stage the plate was finally taken away and the waitress offered a different substitute. I asked for the fish and chips dish which also lacked flavor and was left uneaten.
We are a family who frequent restaurants on a regular basis. My wife a chef with experience in a Michelin star restaurant, and myself formerly an owner of a restaurant and I have never experienced such poor service in any establishment.
The waitress was the only positive aspect however seemed powerless in the face of the rude shift manager.
We will most definitely not return and I cannot recommend...
Read moreA classic bistro restaurant with quite a permanent menu that rarely changes (expect for a specials menu), so if you come here you know exactly what to expect. The service is ok, and the most major downside in my opinion is that the kitchen is open, so if you're sitting inside you'll come out smelling as if you were cooking your own dinner, and when it comes to fish & seafood (which is their specialty), it's not always most pleasant.
We were 4 adults that came for a casual sharing dinner. For starters we ordered their famous papaya salad that never disappoints, a beef carpaccio and a white fish ceviche - all were classic and great.
For main courses we ordered a whole grilled fish (sea bream) that was served with a green beans with sauteed garlic - a super classic dish that was made great, the fish was perfectly grilled but remained tender. The second main course we ordered is our staple at Goocha, and we always find ourselves ordering it, whether if we're dining in or ordering a delivery - pasta with prawns & crab meat. The sauce is super creamy and the flavors are so deep yet not too heavy, just the way we like. If you're eating here for lunch or dinner, this is THE dish you can't miss!
For dessert we ordered a dessert from their specials menu - deconstructed lemon tart. It was a disc of pistachio crunch sitting in a pool of mango coulis, on it there was a smooth & punching lemon cream, topped with unsweetened whipped cream, meringue sticks and a raspberry tuile. The whole combination worked perfectly together and it wasn't too sweet...
