I recently had dinner at La Cantina di Nene, and I can confidently say it’s one of those little gems that captures exactly what I love about traveling in Italy: simple, authentic places where the food speaks for itself and the atmosphere makes you feel like part of the community. This is not a fancy or sophisticated restaurant—don’t expect white tablecloths or designer décor—but rather a straightforward, welcoming trattoria. And that’s exactly its charm. It has the kind of environment where you immediately feel comfortable, which is particularly important when dining with a baby. The ambience was calm and familiar, mostly filled with locals, and that balance between lively conversation and relaxed pace created the perfect setting for us.

The food was outstanding, and it deserves to be highlighted in detail. We started with the grilled vegetables, which were, without exaggeration, some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They were perfectly charred, smoky, and full of flavor, the kind of dish that transforms something simple into something memorable. Then we had a tagliata di manzo at €18 that was absolutely outstanding. The pasta was al dente, the sauce rich and balanced, and every bite reminded us why handmade pasta in Italy is simply on another level. We also tried the pizza capricciosa, but with mozzarella di bufala added. That small change made a world of difference: the creamy, tangy mozzarella blended beautifully with the toppings, making it one of the best pizzas we’ve had during our trip. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and the quality was consistent across every dish.

Wine is another reason to come here. At only €4 a glass, the local wines offered great value without compromising quality. And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get better, the staff surprised us with complimentary digestifs after we paid the bill: vino cotto and genziana liquor. These small touches of generosity go such a long way. They made us feel like guests rather than customers, which is something rare and special.

What also stood out was the kindness and attentiveness of the service. Traveling with a baby always means you need a bit more flexibility—whether it’s space for a stroller, extra patience when the baby stirs, or simply a welcoming smile. The staff provided all of this naturally, without fuss, which made the evening stress-free and enjoyable. There was enough room to keep our stroller by the table, and we never once felt like it was in the way. That’s the kind of detail that can make or break a dinner out with a baby, and here it was seamless.

In the end, La Cantina di Nene offers exactly what many travelers hope for but don’t always find: a local, unpretentious experience where the food is excellent, the prices are fair, and the people genuinely care. For parents with a baby, it’s an easy place to relax, eat well, and feel welcome. I give it a wholehearted five stars and would return without hesitation—especially for those grilled vegetables and that wonderful tagliatelle di manzo. If you want a true Italian experience, simple and amazing, this is a...

In generale tutto ottimo, porzioni abbondanti, prezzi contenuti e onesti.

Chapeau

Fantastic regional cuisine served quickly and nicely plated. I liked the simple porcini pasta with tomatoes the most. The pasta tasted so good I thought it was homemade but we found out later it is coming from small shop specialized in pastas.
