Trattoria Del Bollito — Restaurant in Alba

I have been in Barolo since October 9, 2018. Everywhere we ate in Barolo, La Morra, Serralunga, etc, had dinner/lunch plates that looked like Picasso himself carefully put them together and brought them out to our table. While it all tasted good, nothing was really hitting the spot for me. I wanted to eat home style food, Nona's food, something that was not necessarily engineered by a team of 5 architects to look good. We found Trattoria Del Bollito and I had absolutely, no questions asked, by far, the best and tastiest meal thus far during our stay in the region!

I asked our waitress to translate that to the chef and he laughed out loud and told us I only said that to get a discount :D.

We had lunch at Trattoria Del Bollito today and it was amazing. It has been one of best meals that we have had during our trip to Italy. We both had the Fettuccine with sausage and porcini mushrooms…yum! We were impressed that the entire skillet of pasta was brought to the table. It was great because the pasta stayed hot. Wine was delicious too! Service was great, very helpful, friendly and spoke English. Love the atmosphere and layout of the dining room with wine bottles displayed throughout....

Ieri sera (sabato 9 novembre) siamo andati a mangiare e l’accoglienza ottima da parte delle cameriere ci aveva predisposto molto bene per la serata, purtroppo non è stato così. Ci sediamo e leggiamo sul menù scritto in rosso:

“Nei giorni festivi ordinazione obbligatoria di almeno 2 piatti”

Questo obbligo NON ci era stato detto in fase di prenotazione telefonica (avvenuta circa 1 mese prima), ma non ci preoccupiamo essendo sabato giorno feriale e scegliamo i piatti. Arriva la cameriera ed ordiniamo, ma ci viene fatto presente che anche il sabato i 2 piatti sono obbligatori e NON comprendono né i contorni, né i dolci. Facciamo notare che abbiamo scelto i piatti al tartufo da 50€ cadauno, lei si trova un po’ in difficoltà ma ci fa notare che comunque l’obbligo resta e vista la nostra reazione un po’ interdetta ci lascia ancora un attimo per capire cosa scegliere dal menù. Nel frattempo la medesima scena con le stesse modalità si ripete negli altri tavoli del ristorante. Torna la cameriera e noi cambiamo la scelta dei piatti. Le pietanze non sono nulla di memorabile, anzi si trova decisamente di meglio in zona. Paghiamo il conto molto dispiaciuti per la poca qualità e l’obbligo di scelta, risultato circa 100€ in meno di guadagno per il ristoratore. Mi spiace ma...
