We stumbled across this restaurant upon arrival in San Donato Di Poggio. We saw all tables full of people so we thought that's a good sign the food must be good. We asked for a table and the lady said do you have a reservation We said no. She said ok, if you can wait 5-10 minutes we can set you up a table. We gladly waiting about 5 mins and then were seated. The menu had a wide variety of offerings and the prices were dirt cheap. (Couldn't believe the prices) Then the food comes out WOW!! Small prices BIG portions. We ordered 2 pizzas and one canzone. The canzone was delicious but both pizzas were the best we ever had. Andrea the owner chef sat at the table next to us and we talked the night away with him. Very funny, very friendly. Read moreThis place was a local recommendation - so had to try it. The first night we went there without a reservation and it was packed with a 1+ hour wait time. Second night, was raining a little, so the outside seating was eliminated with only inside seating. We finally decided to 'take out' the pizza.
Take out is a little confusing. Google says there is 'take out', but outside the restaurant there is a clear sign that there is 'no take out'. Yet we took out chance.
After some dry, playful sarcasm by the chef, he accepted our order. After 30 mins wait, our food was ready. Their specialty, amongst other items, was the nutella pizza with ricotta cheese - mouthwatering! Definitely worth a try if you are in that area.

Read moreThe pizza is nothing special, but maybe we are just spoiled from other pizza experiences in Italy. The crust is very dry and brittle, there is far too much cheese and not a lot of sauce. The mushrooms were from a can and the pizza advertised with “hot peppers” is just sprinkled with spicy powder. Also, the draft Coca-Cola was very flat.
Personally, we enjoy pizza with fresh ingredients and a more authentic, chewy crust.
The service was nice enough, as they could tell we didn’t love the pizza and asked if everything was ok. I have an extra star for that, as they seemed to care that we were not very satisfied. They also sat us without a reservation which was very nice of them. The lack of stars is really for the quality...
