It's lunch time. You've just spent an hour exploring the amazing grotte di Borgio Verezzi and have just missed your train back to Savona. What should you do while you wait 105 minutes for the next train? We started walking along via XXV Aprile behind the station and stopped at the buzzing Ristorante Pizzeria Piedigrotta, not the first restaurant we'd seen, but it looked like it would be most suitable. Ushered to a table for two in the shade, the service was perfect and our choices were on the first page of the menu: penne all' arrabbiata and trofie alla Genovese. The portions were really large for first course dishes (we'd also ordered grilled vegetables and there was a generous portion of very nice bread for the table), all cooked perfectly. A glance at the sweets served at a nearby table meant we also had to have dessert: panna cotta and tiramisu, both absolutely delicious. I only had a sandwich for breakfast that day and didn't eat anywhere else except for this dinner at the restaurant. The pasta was VERY salty, which already seemed suspicious to me, but I still ate half a portion. After dinner, I felt discomfort in my stomach and after a few hours, signs of poisoning and severe vomiting began.
