Update: I returned for a week in September 2019 with my 8kg dog "Velvet." Taufenbrunn is the absolute perfect place in the Italian Alps. The hotel is so relaxed and serene. Partschins is a wonderful little village just a short drive from Merano and all that that spa town has to offer. I spent the week getting back to nature and shedding the stress of life in a big city. The view from my terrace of an apple orchard (with millions of ripe apples!) with the mountains immediately behind is spectacular. Partschins is right above the elevation line where the vineyards end and the apple orchards begin. The elevation is 620m above sea level. September has every square centimeter of arable land overflowing with ripe and beautiful apples. Whereas 8km away in Merano, the vineyards are being harvested. As for the amenities, it is perfect, spotless, modern, cozy, private and welcoming. It has everything (ok, no tennis court or pool!). Don't stay at an impersonal large hotel. Here you will be welcomed as family. Hanny is the most gracious host. I cannot recommend this place enough!
While not a 5 star hotel, I must give Taufenbrunn the best rating. I rented a studio apartment for one week in September 2013. I wanted to save on the high cost of eating out. It's a perfect choice for the area. There are some small things that could be improved but the graciousness of the host Hanny trumps all. It is a bit dated but beautiful and spotless. The kitchenette could use a small toaster oven. Separate sleeping, dining and sitting areas. Its big! No CNN (yeah!). I am a night owl but here it is so quiet and peaceful I end up falling asleep at 9:30 after a big day hiking. Partschins is a classic South Tyrolean village but only 10 minutes from Merano. The bar is a wonderful place to have a glass of wine before bed. Overall, the very minor negatives may take 3 points away from a perfect score of 100. Taufenbrunn gets the highest rating I have ever...
Read moreI stayed at the Taufenbrunn for one week in September 2013. I rented a studio apartment with a small kitchen. The price was very reasonable and I was able to cook my own meals in my kitchen. Though the kitchen did not have an oven it was sufficient and included all the necessary cooking tools. The studio apartment was huge, about 50 sq m (530sq.ft.) and had a dining area, lounge, dressing area with closets, a big bed and a covered terrace that overlooked a beautiful apple orchard with the huge mountains just 200m away. It was absolutely idyllic. There is little to do in Parcines at night but I learned to sleep early and rise early. The best sleep I've ever had! So quiet and peaceful. I was traveling alone (no other humans) but did have my 7kg Boston Terrier dog with me. We loved Parcines and Taufenbrunn. The hiking in the area is simply amazing. There is free parking on site and the walks through the orchards are beautiful, especially in September when all of the apples are ripe.||I had never stayed there before or even been to Parcines and found the hotel on line and booked without any other knowledge. ||The innkeeper, Hanny, is the nicest person you could imagine and made me feel at home the entire time I was there. Alto Adige is not on the American tour circuit at all and she told me I was the first American to have ever stayed there! The majority of the visitors to this part of Italy are Germans. The amenities are great and the place is nicely appointed and spotless. The bar is very welcoming and a nice place to try a glass or two of the local wine. There is a full restaurant as well.||I cannot wait to return. I can't think of anything that was wrong with the place (except maybe the lack of a toaster). It is a...
