Ristorante Koala — Restaurant in Capoliveri

First of all, I can’t understand the recent negative comments concerning food quality and size of the dishes. From my pov, here the restaurant performs and delivers as per the price level - fresh ingredients, nicely prepared on a high quality level and satisfying size of the dishes. Well done!

But the service was not as attentive as I would have expected from a restaurant at this price level. After choosing a table, we waited around 20 minutes till the service took our aperitif request and food order. I was disappointed in a way that orders from guests who entered the restaurant after us were even taken before us. And it wasn't because we gave the impression that we weren't ready with our order. From my pov, first improvement point regarding attentiveness of the service. Another observation, as the service staff walked round the tables, none of them topped up the wine glasses at the tables where an entire wine bottle has been ordered - I would have expected such attentiveness from the service at a restaurant of this level. As the evening progressed, it started to rain and all the guests sitting on the terrace had to bring their tables and chairs under a rain cover by themselves or had to rescue their drinks, glasses and food inside the restaurant, also completely by themselves. There's no question that you can't help everyone on the terrace in such a situation, but my perception was that not a single service employee came out to help even some guests. From my pov, it wasn't due to understaffing in service, as I felt there were enough staff present at this evening and also the location wasn’t fully booked. And even if understaffing would have been a reason, a short apologize to guests inside the restaurant can be given by one or two service staffs so that support to outside people can be provided.

All in all, a restaurant that is definitely worth a visit for the food and the location itself. In my opinion, the restaurant can achieve an unforgettable evening for the guests in case small improvements in service attention will be...

Slow and inattentive service. We had the tasting menu, both cooked and raw. The food has potential and the venue is nice. I just regret that my best friend chose it to celebrate her birthday, when we can go anywhere we like on the island…

Instead of admitting that they have no real sommelier working that evening, they give us a waiter who has no clue and sells us a bottle of their house “champagne” and forgets about us for the rest of the evening, even though we explain that we’d like to try several wines. Talks negatively about local winemakers on the island (“too expensive”). We mention twice (both to our waiter/quasi sommelier and the restaurant manager) that we are celebrating a birthday and it’d be nice to get a candle with dessert. They even ask me to point out the birthday girl, but then they completely forget about us. As we are getting up to leave we get a “oh and HBD btw” from the waiter. He should’ve kept pretending he forgot, honestly.

Update: upon reading this review, the owner basically contacts my best friend on WhatsApp in order to “apologize”, but then turns the whole thing into a rant…...

I came with my husband for a romantic dinner and we were really happy with the choice. The restaurant has a really pleasant atmosphere, elegant but casual/not too posh or overly sophisticated. We were sat at a table in the patio, which was lovely. The restaurant also has a really nice garden with a beautiful view. The service was kind and attentive. My husband and I ordered 1 full course meal and shared every dish to get to try as many things as possible. The staff was so kind to accommodate our request and split each dish into 2 portions. We tried the seafood antipasto, octopus calamarata and cernia. To finish, we ordered the apple crumble and lemon tart. Everything was delicious and very well presented. The quantities were perfect. The price was fair (everything was 80€ which is reasonable considering the location, level of service and food quality and compared to other restaurants on the island). I would definitely...
