I was very taken back today, before I even got to sit down the server (loosely using this word) told us that there would be a €2 table charge per person to sit at the table. Maybe landlords should go here to get ideas on how to increase rent prices. I wasn't amused by this table charge, but decided to eat there anyway as I was sure the service would be something worth writing about.
It is, but not positively.
Our server gave us (we were a party of three) a plastic table number type of thing with a QR code. She promptly told us to scan the QR code to place our order online. WHAT!? If that's the case, why is there a table charge? We were in the restaurant, speaking directly with her, and more than capable of ordering what we wanted through her. But, as it turns out, she was one of four people working at the restaurant who could speak Italian.
Going online we ordered our food, a selection of Dim Sum and 3 main courses and one sushi platter. Everything then started to arrive to the table in a topsy turvy, haphazard fashion.
Main courses served before Dim Sun starters, and some starters before main courses. And to make this very clear, I got my main before my starter, and my wife and sister in law got some of their starters before there main; at one point getting both at the same time. Forget the server asking what you ordered, because that doesn't happen here. It is placed on the edge of the table where I had to hand each dish to the one so ordered it. Sorry, did I say placed, I meant thumped onto the side of the table with no hint of recognition from the server. Remind me why there was a table charge?
Now I know that AI has begun to take hold on the information technology sector, but not hospitality. The Baozi were so perfectly wrapped, it was definitely the work of a machine, and to bring this fact home, the amount of meat filling was so slim a vegetarian would have had no issue eating one.
The food, overall, was fine, even though a bit bland. But forget service, forget friendly atmosphere, forget everything you know about restaurants, because Shiro Sushi certainly has.
3 people €85: and you have to serve yourself, and have food that's, 1, raw (it is sushi after all) and 2, reheated after being prepped by a machine and 3, barely anyone speaks the language.
Avoid but only if you're tired of having money and tired of the other pleasures that Castelvetrano...
Read moreThis restaurant is all you can eat. Very reasonable price. The place is huge and we went on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed! We put our order in through our cell phone (qr code) and waited, and waited. It took 40 minutes for food to start coming out. So we put in another order because they close at 330 and if it took that long the first time, we wanted to make sure we had enough food for the 6 of us. We wanted to get 1 sushi boat and somehow it came up as 12! Luckily the waiter came to us and asked us about it. So we said just 1 and we got 2! We told them no more! They don't have much variety in the sushi rolls, and we didn't get a couple that we ordered. But with 2 boats we certainly got our fill. They have tons of options besides sushi, Chinese food, and even some American food (for kids, chicken fingers etc). The food was really good, but the service was really slow. The atmosphere was a little loud inside. There is no view outside, just the busy street. The one price does not include coperto or drinks or dessert. But still reasonable for all...
