Ristorante la Badiaccia — Restaurant in Castiglione del Lago

You’re unlikely to notice this unsung treasure along the road between Cortona and Castiglione del Lago, just south of the Tuscan-Umbrian border; but it’s worth looking out for on the lakeward (east) side of the highway. Don’t be put off by the modest appearance, or the menu headed “Surf and Turf” and appropriately divided in half; the emphasis on seafood is rare for the region.

Pretty much every dish is original, the product of a collaboration between the chef and the hostess/server. To judge by the results, their marriage must be blissful indeed. Let your imagination soar with theirs; we’ve gone many times and have never been disappointed.

Ottima trattoria la consiglio di cuore e di pancia. Quel giorno io e la mia ragazza eravamo appena arrivati in quella zona per fare un weekend tranquillo tutto per noi. Era l'ora di pranzo e così decidemmo di cercare un posto per mangiare, su internet avevamo trovato un ristorante chiamato la bella vita che è in riva al lago Trasimeno ci siamo fiondati li ma purtroppo era chiuso così cercammo un altro posto e mentre giravamo in macchina la mia ragazza mi dice "guarda qui c'è una trattoria andiamo" e così sono entrato nel parcheggio siamo scesi e siamo entrati. Appena entrati la cameriera ci ha fatto accomodare ad un tavolo e ci ha portato i menu, due piccoli con scritti i piatti e la carta dei vini che è letteralmente un libro con scritto i vini, gli champagne, ecc... Dopo poco torna la cameriera e ordiniamo un antipasto, un primo, due secondi, un contorno di patate e l'acqua. Dopo poco tempo arriva l'antipasto una specie di vellutata di ceci con il bacon e il primo i paccheri con la "karbonara" di cervo, due piatti un po' piccolini rispetto al classico piatto di casa ma decisamente gustosi. Appena finito la cameriera porta via i piatti e dopo poco arrivano i secondi e il contorno, anatra con datteri e una salsa particolare, il cinghiale e le patate arrosto fini e croccanti, anche qui due piatti piccolini ma stupendi, buonissimi e un contorno altrettanto buono. Torna la cameriera chiede come è andato il pranzo fino a quel momento e chiede se vogliamo un dolce, così ordiniamo il birramisu un tiramisù fatto con la birra davvero buonissimo, finito il pranzo andiamo alla cassa per pagare ci chiedono se è andato tutto bene e ci danno il conto, totale 64 euro. A group of us were in Cortona for a wedding and wanted to try a restaurant in a different town - and this was hands down our favorite from the five days we were in the region. The staff were so lovely and welcoming, and from start to finish this was a great meal experience. The food itself was phenomenal - ask for olive oil pairings with your food!
