Donato has a real passion for wine and the olive oil. You can really feel the love that he has poured into the outdoor space. Hearing the history of the vineyard and using the wine bottle shapes for marketing was fascinating. This small winery was a special experience that you just do not get at a larger winery. Having a private tour was worth while. It was nice being able to savor the tasty cheeses and olives while sipping the wine. The view was stunning and the information about how the grapes and olives was fascinating.
The olive oil was the best I have had even while in Italy. It was the star of the show. The fact that the olive oil and wine is organic is a massive win in my books. I will be placing my order for olive oil when we get home. I never understood why people wanted to eat olive oil with bread until I tried this olive oil!! Everyone in our group raved about the olive oil. We loved the super Tuscan wine as well. It was flavorful and very full. Would highly recommend!
Accessibility: there is pea gravel but it shallow and on hard packed ground so it is fairly easy to get through. A little bit of uneven pavement but really not bad. Bathroom had enough room and was clean. Unfortunately like most of Italy no grab bars and the toilet was high. You could roll under the sink. The lip to get into the bathroom was 2 inches or less.

Read moreWhat an experience! This spontaneous winery visit has been an absolute highlight of our trip so far! My partner Dean and I had a weekend booked at an accommodation just 5 minutes down the road. As we were staying in Tuscany of course we wanted to taste some authentic wines and have a proper Tuscan experience. After looking on google maps the nearby wineries we came across Villa il Pozzo, we quickly read the reviews and saw the amazing feedback and decided we would come and visit. We hadn’t booked ahead as we prefer to be spontaneous and not have time restrictions for our days. We arrived at the winery and Donato welcomed us with open arms, we immediately wanted to stay for the tour and have the full experience. Donato is so passionate about the wines and the family owned winery and he pours his heart and soul into the beautiful experience and incredible wines. We felt so comfortable and really enjoyed our experience. We were able to taste 4 different red wines which were paired beautifully with some platters, salami and of course dark chocolate! This is a must do experience for those wanting to really experience a family run winery in Tuscany. We will be recommending it to all of our friends and family when they visit the region.
Thank you so much Donato for your time and sharing with us the story of your...
Read moreEvery winery in Tuscany tries to set themselves apart by talking about their soil, their process, their grapes. But I can assure you—none of them have Donato. And that makes all the difference.
Donato oversees the winery at Il Pozzo, and I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing it through his eyes on a recent tasting and tour. He’s a natural-born storyteller, the kind who makes you lean in a little closer, not just because what he’s saying is interesting (which it always is), but because of the way he brings it to life. His passion is contagious, his knowledge encyclopedic—but what truly sets him apart is the heart he brings to every moment.
Spending time with Donato feels less like a tour and more like being invited into something special—into the rhythms of the land, the legacy of the vineyard, and the soul of Tuscany itself. He doesn’t just share facts; he shares feelings, memories, connections. It’s rare to find someone so genuinely dedicated to creating not just a visit, but an experience you’ll carry with you long after the wine has been poured.
If you have the chance to visit Il Pozzo, do it—and if you’re lucky enough to have Donato as your guide, prepare to fall in love with Tuscany...
