This place is incredible! Our air bnb host recommended it as a local spot that's his favorite. And I was really glad because it's known for polenta which is a main food in the region (because historically, northern Italy didn't produce wheat for pasta or bread, so they ate polenta). We got there and the room was empty but then we found the second room which was so lively and packed with couples and families! We sat down and took in the atmosphere, all the walls are decorated with old farming equipment, and the place was so cozy. I loved the environment. We got a carafe of local red wine, delicious. The highlight was the beef cheeks with polenta. Literally the best thing I have ever had in my life and my partner felt the same. We also had dessert, we got panna cotta and chocolate cake. The panna cotta was the BEST one I have ever had (I fell in love with the dessert years ago but never found a really good one so I always order it when its on a menu, and now I can die happy). Thank you guys for welcoming us! The food, atmosphere, and service was great!!! We will never ever forget this night.

One of my favorite restaurants to go back to. We always go when in the area. Food is great, authentic, and fairly priced. Staff is super kind and helpful, making all guests feel at home. My favorite dishes are the salumi (cured cold cuts) as starter, pizzoccheri (pasta from the alps with cheese) as a “first dish” and Guancino di manzo Brasato (braised beef cheek with polenta) as a main. For busy days (ie when there’s great weather and it’s the weekend) it’s definitely advisable to book in advance.

Una splendida sorpresa. Il posto non è così immediato da raggiungere ma ne vale la pena. L'ambiente del locale è in linea con la cucina tradizionale proposta. Il menù è molto invitante e la scelta ardua. Per una persona come me, non del posto, si vorrebbe assaggiare tutto ma purtroppo non si può. Consigliato da una splendida e gentilissima "padrona di casa" ho potuto mirare le tipicità come i missoltini che sono pesci di lago preparati in modo saporito accompagnati con polenta a bilanciarne il sapore. I pizzoccheri fatti in casa sono speciali anzi da prendere assolutamente. A seguire polenta uncia e polenta del crotto, impegnative per la sostanza, ma buonissime. Essendo stato ospite non so quanto abbiamo speso ma i prezzi da menù sono sicuramente più che giusti.Ritornerò sicuramente se ne avrò occasione.

Una splendida sorpresa. Il posto non è così immediato da raggiungere ma ne vale la pena. L'ambiente del locale è in linea con la cucina tradizionale proposta. Il menù è molto invitante e la scelta ardua. Per una persona come me, non del posto, si vorrebbe assaggiare tutto ma purtroppo non si può. Consigliato da una splendida e gentilissima "padrona di casa" ho potuto mirare le tipicità come i missoltini che sono pesci di lago preparati in modo saporito accompagnati con polenta a bilanciarne il sapore. I pizzoccheri fatti in casa sono speciali anzi da prendere assolutamente. A seguire polenta uncia e polenta del crotto, impegnative per la sostanza, ma buonissime. Eccezionale in ogni stagione. Si direbbe in modo facile "un luogo fuori dal tempo" ma fondamentalmente è vero.

Nelle stagioni meno calde l'interno è una specie di museo etnografico degli antichi mestieri di bosco e di campagna. Nelle stagioni dove stai fuori, lascia fare: sei al fresco sano, quando a Como città annaspi nell'umido soffocante del peggio caldo. Al Crotto respiri sempre aria bella in mezzo ai boschi e a persone belle.

Andando al cibo, mai una volta che ci abbiano delusi. Attenzione, cura, precisione. Lo, ammetto, vado al Crotto per mangiarmi sempre le cose che amo: primo antipasto con le loro sublimi lumache aglio, prezzemolo e burro, secondo antipasto con salumi e formaggi. E poi, per secondo, la cotoletta. E' un dono degli Dei, panatura perfetta, non un pezzo di carne mal cotto e lasciato attaccato all'osso (che poi portiamo a casa per i cani).

Però bisogna ampiamente parlare dei pizzoccheri perfetti, del risotto ai funghi porcini, degli sciatt da tradizione e dei menù stagionali. Poi ancora: dal tartufo nero in battuta di Fassona alle puntarelle con acciughe e spuma di pecorino, dal filetto di ombrina arrosto alla tagliata di Angus, dai ravioli ripieni al brasato di manzo alla cazoeula. E poi il cinghiale in ogni variante, polenta e missoltini, le arborelle fritte, il risotto agli asparagi e stracciatella con profumo di limone, l'uovo affogato negli asparagi con fonduta di taleggio e pane fritto al timo. E ora mi fermo ché è un elenco. Non amo i dolci in generale ma tutti i miei commensali li hanno sempre promossi con voti generosi.

Se non andate al Crotto, è in definitiva quello che voglio dire, vi fate un torto. Ma lo sapete già, mi sa.

(Mai mangiata la pizza, ma i residenti di Civiglio amici nostri dicono sia ottima. E ci credo)

Went here to try local food because of the good reviews.

They put us in the corner in some other room away from Everybody. They did not even ask us anything, no drinks no menu nothing, for the first 30 min, so I had to ASK if we could order something. When she came she barely made eye contact and it was as if they didn't want us there. We never felt like this in a restaurant ever. Also the food wasn't even good. Bread was hard and cold and felt like it was from the day before. Definitely won't recommend...
