This is a tough review to write because there´s light and shadow.
Getting there was a pain in the back. Not the hotel´s fault, but currently (July / August 2023) the whole Centro Cles is blocked for vehicles because of a festival. Great for pedestrians, bad for anybody else. A hint on the website / Booking.com / etc. might be a good idea. If you use any sort of navigation device, it´ll take you around in circles, but not to the hotel.^^
Host Juri (cool guy, very friendly and welcoming) solved that issue for me after walking to the Hotel (just ignore the blocked streets) and guided me to a place for my motorbike in the backyard. That´s the italian way and he also invited my to a very welcome beer after riding the moto for over 500km that day. Really appreciated, grazie! :)
My single room was OK, very clean, had an AC and even a small balcony heading to the backyard. Great. Except for the backyard was rented to some guy that celebrated his 50 birthday and we all know Italians can celebrate really, really good. Until early in the morning.^^
The breakfast was awful, even compared to italian "standards". Croissants from the day before, no "real" bread, no butter, I don´t want to go on.
Worst: no staff was around, only other confused guests. A pity and worst I ever experienced in Italy all my life.
No staff also means one was not able to check out until Juri arrrived at approx. 08:10. Maybe he had joined the party, too?^^
I also tried the restaurant. Mixed feelings here: I had the deer Carpaccio and pork cheeks.
Maybe I do not understand the concept of the Carpaccio on a bed of what appeared to be freshly washed salad, but except for the sweet mirtello salsa, everything else was bland, lacked salt and tasted like not much. A pity for the deer, maybe it was just served too chilled. Not my personal taste. :(
The cheeks were lovely braised with a not bad Jus. Again, it lacked power. And salt.
The waiter was higly commited, but could not tell me the name of the vino bianco della casa (which I really liked). Sorry, but "Chardonnay" was the wrong answer. Training advised.^^
Sorry, but overall, three stars is my benevolent rating. Two stars would be realistic, too, given the...
Read moreThe Antica can be found on Via Roma in the centre of Cles . There is a bar to the left and the owners always offer a warm welcome and it’s a great place to have an aperitivo before ascending the stairs to the Tirolian style dining room ( That has a traditional stufa a olle ) . There is an extensive menu and I have tried the cerva ( venison ) and on this occasion I had the risotto fughi . Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. The owner suggested what local wine went with what dish . ||We also got to try the duck and the chef also appeared at the end of service and had a glass of red with us and we discussed how he sourced his ingredients locally - everyone at the Antica is friendly and accommodating. All in all an excellent dining experience- highly recommended after a long mountain walk or discovering what Val Di Non...
