Grotto Bagat is a small hotel with around 12 rooms, about a 5 minute drive over the Ponte Tresa border from Switzerland. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms are fine. The rooms facing the lake view are a bit noisy if you have the window open, so take a room in the back if that is important for you. The place has a very good restaurant with lots of tables outside. If you are looking for a place to stay overnight to break up your trip south, this is a good choice. You can park next to the hotel, check in and have a nice dinner on the terrace. They have a good selection of meat and fish at the high end and pizzas and pastas at the lower end, so lots of choices. Waiters at the restaurant were pretty cool and we had a good time with them. The breakfast the next day was quite nice as well. Will very likely go back at a future point in time. The Wifi is free, but not a very good quality, so you may need to go down to the lobby to get a solid signal. This is a 3* hotel, so do not expect 5* amenities, but it is good...

Read moreWe had a lovely overnight stay here on our trip home from Italy. Everything, from a warm welcome by the lovely staff, to the clean and comfortable room with a great view of Lake Lugano and a shared terrace, was perfect. When we arrived, the staff was very friendly, English was spoken perfectly by the lovely lady at reception. She even offered to help me carry our luggage upstairs and brought us two coffees to the room. Our small dog was also welcomed by everyone. The breakfast buffet has everything you could possibly need and we especially enjoyed the fresh croissants and other sweet treats. I would definitely recommend the lake view rooms if you don't mind the street in front of the house. I would also recommend the restaurant in the house, we had a great dinner here with specialties from the region. All in all we had a very nice stay here and we would definitely come back if we are in the region again....
