Ristorante Da Carlo — Restaurant in Enna

This restaurant is easy to miss! It has a very narrow door on one street and a beautiful open-air area at the back that is only accessible through a narrow, winding road.

Thank goodness for the internet! We found this restaurant through internet reviews and decided to try it out. We were a table of 5. Three of us had pizza and 2 had a fritto misto (mixed fries shellfish). WOW! The fritto misto was excellent. Light on batter and not relatively oily, considering you're eating fried food. I usually opt out of this dish as it tends to get sickly after a bit.

My pizza (the one in the picture) was good albeit a bit soggy in the middle. The owner, who was extremely curtuous, offered to add burrata to our pizza (after I asked him whether there are any pizzas with burrata instead of mozzarella di bufala).

Nella sua epoca dorata era un ristorante eccellente ed economico, una nostra tappa obbligata ogni volta che attraversavamo la Sicilia centrale. Oggi è un ristorante buonino e caro. Per anni, Da Carlo ha vantato un magnifico tavolo di antipasti e prezzi ragionevoli. Oggi il tavolo è scomparso e l'antipasto (nella fattispecie bruschetta) ti viene non dico imposto, perché uno può sempre dire di no, ma sicuramente proposto con estrema insistenza. L'insistenza e il fare sbrigativo sono comunque caratteristiche di tutto il personale. A qualcuno può anche piacere, io preferirei un poco più di cortesia. In due abbiamo preso: Le bruschette "proposte". Pasta alla Carlo, veramente ottima. Spiedini alla palermitana, titolo ingannevole perché non erano ripieni di pangrattato, uva passa, pinoli e caciocavallo bensì di prosciutto e di un formaggio molto grasso che li rende stucchevoli dopo i primi due-tre bocconi. Tagliata di vitello, dura e secca. L'abbiamo fatto notare al proprietario, che ne è convenuto e ci ha proposto con insistenza di sostituirla con un filetto. Ora, può darsi che mi sbagli, ma se tu, invece di rifare una portata venuta male con una fatta bene, la sostituisci con una portata diversa ma più cara, buona creanza imporrebbe che facessi pagare la portata più cara al prezzo di quella sostituita. Invece ci hanno fatto pagare il filetto come filetto. Un'insalata di radicchio senza amore né sapore. Mezzo litro di rosso (non hanno quartini). Una bottiglia d'acqua. Un caffè. Avrebbero potuto offrirlo visto il contrattempo con la tagliata. Non l'hanno fatto. Coperto 3 euro a persona: come a Taormina ma a Pergusa, Sicilia centrale. Totale 68 euro. Very. Delicious food for an reasonable price. It is not worth to drive to there when you are in Enna. One thing was not so good, the camberoni was clened in whater from the water tape, what is not an issue so far, bat the wather in Pergusa i guess has some clorine inside.
