Ristorante I Conti — Restaurant in Fiumicino

We just ate there May 27th 2017. We were in Italy for two full weeks and on this last day we were caught up in the British Air worldwide cancellations. We had to hustle hard to find anyplace to stay and there were all kinds of glitches, ie, not being able to hold a connection from the airport with any of our 4 portable electronic devices. We ended up out on the edge of Fiumicino. Very beaten down and shaken after spending the whole day finding new flights at great expense and a motel, we walked down the street and found this lovely place that was packed with locals. IT WAS THE BEST FOOD and restaurant experience we had in Rome, Florence, or Positano. They had a better wine list than most and we had stayed at the Hotel Eden Roc, the Rome Cavalieri and Portrait Firenze. The owner and his wife were very friendly. My wife had been treated poorly we guess because she didn't have her shoulders covered at a local eatery in Florence, so if the owner reads this he will recall the women who asked if she could take her jacket off. This restaurant was so wonderful it nearly made up for the disaster of our last travel day. I don't know if it will ever get enough reviews to qualify high on the restaurant list in Fiumicino or Rome but I can assure you it is as good or better as any of them. Very reasonable...

Ero indeciso se fare una recensione a questa "chicca" di ristorante oppure, come in tutte le situazioni speciali, fare l'egoista e tenermi la conoscenza di questo ristorante solo per me e i miei amici. Poi è arrivato un compleanno e abbiamo deciso di andare da I Conti perché volevo, visto l'affetto che mi lega al festeggiato, che fosse tutto memorabile. La prima cosa da dire è che i titolari, la Signora Rosanna e il marito Fabrizio, sono capaci, pur mantenendo un approccio sempre professionale, di farti sentire un ospite desiderato, quello che quando viene a casa nostra, faremmo di tutto per renderlo felice...ecco loro sono così ...e si sa che "coccole" e fantastico cibo sono sempre un binomio molto apprezzato e ricercato. Visto che questa recensione arriva dopo molti pranzi e cene trascorse da loro, la voglio fare bene, onesta e strutturata. Partiamo dal menù: sempre pietanze freschissime, di stagione e di prima qualità e di conseguenza (e giustamente) i piatti raffinati nella loro apparente semplicità, seguono il susseguirsi delle stagioni... e i nostri artisti, Rosanna e Fabrizio, con questo spartito ci presentano un menù ricc. Tra gli antipasti, frutti di mare, pesce crudo (ostriche di prima scelta) tutto leggermente condito con olio evo per dare la possibilità al palato di sentire distintamente ogni profumo che il mare ci regala, baccalà tenerissimo fritto in modo magistrale e ricoperto da fettine di tartufo fresco (e molto altro). Tra i primi c'è da perdere la testa (pasta rigorosamente fatta in casa) e preparata con il guizzo dei geni dei fornelli...e questo ti porta a non riuscire a scegliere il piatto con cui vuoi premiarti, magari dopo una giornata di lavoro!...poi, con il consiglio di Rosanna, tutto diventa chiaro e la scelta che farai sarà la più giusta per quella cena. Tra i secondi cito due must: l'astice alla catalana (un sogno!) oppure per chi preferisce la carne un fantastico stinco di maiale. Ora passo a parlare di due argomenti che in un ristorante fanno la differenza: i dolci e la cantina. Rosanna, regina dei dessert, tutti pensati, lavorati e decorati da lei, ai quali dedica, interi pomeriggi per far si che i clienti trovino sempre "coccole" freschissime e nuove. Ora mi rivolgo a Fabrizio e lo ringrazio per la cura, la conoscenza (è un sommelier) e la professionalità con cui ti consiglia un vino...in tanti pranzi e cene ha sempre interpretato ciò che volevo in quel momento. Rara la cura nel mantenere la cantina sempre in grado di soddisfare anche i palati più raffinati, ed ogni volta prova anche cantine giovani (sempre di alto livello) per premiare anche i giovani viticoltori...per non parlare degli alcolici , amari... e se per caso chiedete una grappa un cognac, che lui non ha, se può, la volta dopo, te lo fa trovare. Voglio chiudere, scusandomi per essere stato prolisso ma, un'ultima cosa voglio scriverla: forse la sensazione più bella, quando esci dal ristorante I Conti, è la serenità che si prova in questo locale! At Ristorante I Conti you are Family

This was THE best experience of our trip to Italy thus far. Five star food and even better service! Fabrizio and Rosanna are the husband and wife owners at your table side all night treating you like you are family! We had eggplant and beef carpaccio starters and the truffle mushroom and green gnocchi with pesto. Was amazing and five star. But then, the desert was other-worldly and “best of Italy!” Rosanna makes the deserts in house and we had the ricotta pear cake. I think only time in my life that my girlfriend Victoria and I ordered the same desert twice!
