Il Celliere a Castagnoli — Restaurant in Gaiole in Chianti

We went to the winery, which was fabulous, and decided to try the onsite restaurant. This is a top shelf place, and the food was pricey. But this was the BEST meal I had this trip to Tuscany!!! We ate for lunch, and it was not busy at all, but understand that they are packed at night. I got the special - it was a wild boar stew, with the local mushrooms and truffels. We first came to this beautiful restaurant two years ago. Upon returning last night, it is just fantastic as we remembered. The staff are kind and welcoming, and the food is some of the best in the region, which we visit often. The pasta and bread is all homemade and everything from the chef's amuse bouche to the desserts are carefully thought out and perfectly executed! We will return again before we leave the area. This place is a little gold mine! I defy anyone to find better food and better service anywhere else in Italy. It is a bit off the beaten track in Chianti country but worth finding it! Don't be put off by the prices in the early part of the menu. There is plenty to choose from further on which is all reasonably priced.
