This place is heaven in Chianti. We booked the picnic tasting package about 2 weeks in advance. We enjoyed the beautiful Tuscan views on the terrace, while Ines walked us through the tasting. The picnic was very generous, including meats, cheeses, pickled vegetables, bread, olive oil, quiche, fava beans, and cake. However, what you really care about is the wine. Absolutely amazing Chiantis and their FSM is an award winner for an obvious reason. I liked every tasting which is not normal, there’s usually something I would not enjoy. We were very happy with the service especially. They were ready for us when we arrived and we got to spend plenty of time enjoying our picnic without any rush. We had a wonderful personalised tour of the Vicchiomaggio cellars, the castle and a wine tasting, accompanied by some delicious cheeses. Our guide Doreena was 10/10 - a trained sommelier, she really knows her stuff. If you are into learning about wine, how the vessels change the taste, and what makes Chianti Classico the best red wine in the region, you should not pass here on your travels up the Chianti hills. My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Castello Vicchiomaggio, visiting the wine shop for a short tasting and a tour the next day. Ines and Nadia were incredibly friendly, generous and helpful. We ultimately decided to do the wine tour with them rather than a competitor as a result and did not regret it - the tour was fun, engaging and informative about the region (while also being a fraction of the price quoted by the competitor).
