Trattoria Del Mulino — Restaurant in Grinzane Cavour

This is a total surprise finding! I was looking for a local restaurant and this one does look very local even though the Google review show 4.1 stars. What I later find out was this is a new restaurant with new owner, new chef. But the old review were carried out to the new restaurant. So I would like to do justice to the existing restaurant at the location. This restaurant definitely deserves five stars. The ambient, the food, the taste, the staff, all give me the feeling of a very local family run restaurant. And more importantly the food is amazing and makes me very comfortable.

What a hidden gem! A very unassuming facade covers some of the best food and service you could find in Italy, or anywhere for that matter. The restaurant doesn't have a formal menu but consists of a service in which the staff brings you each course straight from the pan after proposing you a handful of options. You really feel like you're in a family member's kitchen, with an aunt or uncle bringing you food fresh from the oven! Very authentic, very delicious. They have great recommendations for food and wine (all from the local region) and are extremely friendly. Great ambiance, great food, nothing but kind things to say...

This looked like the most basic eatery as it can get, nothing fancy. Well there is no menu and no price list or drink menu - so you can only guess how much you will pay. It seems the dinners were local seniors so we joined in for lunch. But the bill was 80 euros (infant, student and two adults) which is a bit high for such simple food as beef slice for apetizers with fried paprika and fried potatoes and carrots with lamb for the main dish. Could be that the tourists get a much higher bill than the locals -...
