This place is a MUST go - the setting is a hipster’s paradise: a huge garden full of mature olive trees, almond trees and palms with red brick buildings and a wood fired pizza oven. You can explore the gardens down to the wall on an overlook over the beach and see the moonlight reflecting off the water and Taormina in the distance. The moment you enter, you are feeling like you are entering a private estate opened for you - in fact, Greta Garbo (hence the namesake) stayed here and you can see the room they’ve made up in her honour. The food is excellent - great selection of classic and upscale pizzas, we had a marinara with anchovies and a combo of capicola, a local cheese with a bit of funk and cherry tomatoes. Both excellent. We had the ‘pistachio truffle’ for dessert, which was essentially pistachio ice cream with a dark chocolate sauce centre. House white wine was light, crisp and easy drinking. Restaurant is down a pedestrian path - don’t try to take you car down, park after the bridge before Hotel Silemi. A nice you will...
Read moreProbably best place to have dinner in the town. It is a short distance walk from the town itself but it’s definitely worth a walk. We stayed at the hotel next door and restaurant there was average at best. We were very happy to find Villa Garbo. Food is great, ambience of the place is also fantastic with great setting under olive trees, good lighting and great view of the sea. All dishes we tried were very nice. They also have good collection of local wines at reasonable prices. You have to try the Etna red wine, produced only 20 km from the restaurant on slopes of Mount Etna. Overall great experience and way above anything we experienced...
Read moreThe location is a phenomenal villa by the beach with a big garden. The food is a hit or miss: the swordfish involtini were very tasty (but also very few), the fish platter was average at best (and the portion was small), the pizzas overall were tasty, particularly the gourmet ones! Service did not match the ambitions of the restaurant and the amazing location — the waiter did not even make us taste the wine! Expect long waiting times and...
