My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Tuscany and on our third night in the nearby area we were recommend this amazing restaurant by our hotelier. We had no booking, we turned up at 9.30pm and they accommodated us graciously and served food that blew us away. The atmosphere was incredible, the servers were helpful, knowledgeable, attentive. The little touches really were so special, I’m not going to give you any spoilers you simply will have to go and experience Antica Locanda di sesto. image our surprise when the bill was half what we had paid the evening before in Lucca. We returned every evening to the whole team greeting us like friends. Our only disappointment is we couldn’t visit on the Saturday as it was closed!! We had to SLUM it back in Lucca where everything became a comparison to ‘our lovely place’ imagine my husband bemoaning that the waitress in Lucca served him a beverage WITHOUT ice and lemon separately with a little silver tong. I happy food danced through every course, every evening and think I had an out of body experience eating the tiramisu (which I don’t usually like) I ate the whole thing without even offering my husband a taste. Then looked at him as if he ate it because I was so disappointed...

Make a reservation and go! Expect to be greeted as a long-time friend with smiles and cheerfulness. Simply sit and enjoy an unhurried and beautiful meal in the Lucca countryside. It really is worthy of the 5 stars I'm giving it here.

The wine list is good and reasonably priced. The mixed antipasti fantastic - cheese, bruschetta, meats... lovely. The pasta dishes we had, amazing... and the mains well prepared and tasty. Even though I was stuffed to the gills we had a dolce anyway :) I know, I'm bad.

My partner and I took the train to Ponte a Mariano and walked to the restaurant one Sunday afternoon. We had the crazy idea to walk all the way back to Lucca along the Parco fluviale del Serchio... it was a LONG trip, but entirely worth it. But at the end of the day, even though the food and location was wonderful, what I will always remember is how nice the staff were.

Don't...

Returned here after two years and editing the comment also after two years. Two years ago everything was perfect.

This time it was not perfect at all, mostly the service/serving.

Last time our glasses were getting filled up without us even noticing, now we filled them.

We had to wait for quite a long time to be served and felt like we were forgotten there at the table. Secondly, the bistecca really didn’t feel like 1.6Kg, but we’ll leave it that way.

Pros: The local wine produced there is getting better! As the lady there said: “if it is your first time here don’t bother looking at the wine menu, grab our wine”. The wine is truly good and cheap also, so go for it.

The olive oil, La Maolina, is superb, I’ve bought a bottle to take home at the end of the dinner.

Even with the above mentioned, you still have 5 stars because the taste and quality...
