We booked this gem of a place on the Internet. Our room was a corner room with a spectacular view of Lake Orta. The room was very nice and stylish the bed comfortable, the balcony warp around big. As in a typical Italian place, the bedding was not up to standard. A woolen blanket wrapped in a bedsheet is not the standard today. The bathroom was small but stylish. The shower tiny. If you are slightly heavy set and not slim, but I do not mean fat or obese, it is virtually impossible to shower in this tiny shower cabin. Both room and bathroom were very clean and take care of daily.||The breakfast, was, but not really excellent. Per person, one croissant and the same type of bread every day and a few biscuits and crackers do not constitute a bread variety. Jams ok and honey as well yogurt superb and cereal also. Every day a platter of ham and thinly sliced cheese? One day, the ham was replaced by Salami. Really???? Italy the land of cold cuts and cheese and this very restricted choice and quality makes breakfast along with the missing bread type a poor experience. How about some boiled eggs? Or freshly baked cakes, as this is normal in Italy. ||The food in the hotel restaurant is delicious and everyone stays there should try it. ||It is a family run hotel and service was warm and friendly and if business levels are not too high in the evening excellent attention and service.||Some helpful tips for the owners maybe: Please respect classical service standards. Remove not necessary glasses from the table to create more space. At the breakfast room, please clear and clean the tables as the customers leave. Your habit of leaving these tables soiled with dirty dishes ruins the ambience, and it is not professional. These points are made to help you improve, not to nag. With a bit more care your hotel could be world class. Now it...

Read moreI recommend this hotel for a very authentic and "untouristy" holiday stay. The view is the most obvious outstanding feature, and it is absolutely spectacular - the light constantly changes and, if you're lucky, there will be a thunder storm over Milan while you're there that will illuminate the sky. And do not miss a walk to the Sanctuary, very peaceful and even better views.||The drive up to the hotel is also a great feature, unless you're a nervous driver. I have to say, I really enjoyed this, but do try not to forget anything as when, you get to the bottom, "just popping back to get my camera" will possibly lead to an argument!||Hotel food is very good, do stay and have an evening meal there. The hotel is family run, and a lovely family. English is a bit limited but, hey, what the heck, we managed fine, and communicating was fun. I also really enjoyed a couple of slightly tricky discussions about a) my initial choice of wine (in which I was persuaded to change my mind) and b) how to use the coffee machine (and not have too much espresso in one go). Maybe unnecessary, but it added to the charm of the place.||Talking of charm, anyone who has stayed in Italy slightly off the beaten track (and often on it too) will be used to fairly "plain" bedrooms and bathrooms that are unlikely to feature in Grand Designs. Well, the rooms are more than comfortable but they do conform to type. ||In terms of the area, Lago d'Orta is fab, so is Maggiore (I much prefer Orta), and both Milan and Turin are within a pretty east drive (once you've got to the bottom of the hill). Malpensa is about an hours easy drive away. ||Fab - just go, you can't...
