Ristorante Arcadia — Restaurant in Messina

We came here on a Sunday for lunch.

This place is located what seems to be a commercial area. Lots of warehouses and similar looking buildings. Initially we thought that we had made a mistake to drive 25 mins to this place but as we pulled up there were many cars just outside the restaurant. This was a good sign! For Sunday afternoon when the city felt very deserted, this place was serving about half of their tables.

We sat down in an air conditioned space with multiple fans making the space feeling like a beach resort. The Ambiance is not top class but they are not pretending to be what they are not.

Our host recommended the sea food platter. Oh what a treat. We devoured the entire thing.

Then came the grilled vegetables and grilled fish platter. It was even better than the first serving. Vegetables were light and crunchy and were not drenched in olive oil. Mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, peppers and radicchio were perfectly grilled. Each was cooked separately and could tell that by each vegetable being perfectly al dent.

I would say if you are in Messina for any reason, business, holiday or just passing by, Make every effort to visit this place. You won’t regret it.

We loved this little gem - such a surprise! Tucked away in an industrial area close to the port of Messina, we had low expectations but were hungry after travelling from Amalfi by road / ferry. Amazing service, beautiful people, they couldn’t be happier to serve us even though it was that awkward time between lunch and dinner when the kitchen wasn’t at full capacity. Had a massive seafood platter - more than the 4 of us could eat. Everything was fresh and tasty. Only one wine on the list, as is common in the area, and the wine was just right for the seafood. Sono stato invitato ad una serata in questo locale da alcuni amici per mangiare qualcosa a base di pesce e farci gli auguri di Natale. La serata è partita malissimo, appena entrato nel locale mi accorgo subito che la suola delle scarpe si incollava al pavimento, segno di poca igiene, ed inoltre appena arrivato al tavolo il mio coltello era sporco e me lo sono dovuto far sostituire dal cameriere. Poco dopo arrivano al tavolo 4 bottiglie d'acqua ed un vino bianco della casa che era imbevibile, lo abbiamo fatto sostituire con un bianco di nera, un vino bianco frizzantino molto buono. A seguire arrivano almeno 8 pirofile di antipasto a base di pesce, il pesce totalmente surgelato, inoltre nella pirofila dell'insalata di mare c'era un capello molto lungo che ho fatto notare al cameriere che si è scusato. Il tutto al limite del mangiabile, le ostriche emanavano un brutto odore infatti ne ho mangiata una sola e poi sono rimaste nel piatto, le cozze l'unica cosa discreta ma erano lavate male, il guscio esterno era pieno di terra. Dopo aver "assaggiato" gli antipasti sono arrivate 4 pirofile di pasta, la pasta col nero delle seppie era immangiabile, retrogusto acido e credo che per amalgamare il nero sia stata usata un pizzico di panna. Pasta allo scoglio che sembrava pasta all'olio con cozze e vongole buttate sopra a caso, il risotto invece pieno di brodo e senza nessun gusto. Serata abbastanza deludente sotto il punto di vista gastronomico, tant'è che abbiamo deciso di non prendere neanche il dolce e di andare via. Fondamentalmente mi sono divertito perchè essendo in ottima compagnia e considerato che il vino è stata l'unica cosa buona che abbiamo consumato ed anche in abbondanza, la serata è degenerata in una specie di karaoke tragicomico. Per concludere 60 euro a persona, praticamente saremmo potuti andare a mangiare in un locale di pesce veramente buono, e siamo andati via...
