A more beautiful place to eat outside (or, if you prefer, inside) could scarcely be wished for. While there’s no Tuscan landscape view, sitting at the base of the eponymous castle amidst the surrounding buildings is delightful. So is the food. We especially enjoyed the fresh truffle pasta, meat ragù, pizzas and house red table wine. (Skip the mussels, lobster, and Caesar salad, which aren’t typical of the region anyway.) The friendly owner, chef and servers come to take and deliver orders, and when we visited, the young niece of the owner also helped serve up at this family-run restaurant. Take a brief detour to the nearby sculpture garden.

Traveling from Florence to this beautiful area in the heart of Tuscany, to ending up to what felt like the middle of nowhere, to then be treated to one of the best restaurants we've ever been to. We drove past it and thought yes we want to go here, and we are so glad we did! Amazing service and most importantly amazing food. We sat outside to one of the most beautiful views of Tuscany that you could ask for! Highly recommended, make sure to choose the Lamb and the Ricotta desert. We loved it, thank you Locanda!

A beautiful family created this spectacular restaurant in an old castle on the hill in San Giovanni D’Asso. The setting is only outmatched by the food and the service. Chef Massimo waited on us himself with excellent recommendations and a very warm reception. Everything we tried was amazing, but the fresh truffle pastas were exceptional. The wine is also fantastic. Massimo and his family went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We look forward to returning on our next trip.

Decent enough, though felt over charged. We are here for lunch. Meal prices seemed on the high side but ok, quality can cost. We were charged €8 euro for two small basic bread baskets that were brought out without ordering. But what disappointed me was being offered something kid friendly that could be made for our 8 year old. Great we thought until we were charged the €18 euro for the kids carbonara - we queried this and were told it is a normal portion so full charge. Bill came to €95 for two adults and a child. Which was two adult main meals as and a glass of “house” wine Guys please don’t charge full prices for children especially for a simple carbonara. We were the only ones in...
