My wife and daughter and I stayed here after driving up from Matera. My father was born in this village and I always wanted to visit and explore, We arrived in early January and were the only ones staying in the hotel which is essentially a very large B&B. Staying here is like staying with an Italian family and it is very pleasantly informal. We ate three meals a day here, and the meals were prepared for us at whatever time we requested. Many of the meals we ate together with Elena, Nino, and their two children home from college. Each meal was a simple but amazing feast. The pizza crust may be my favorite ever, and Nino explained how he grows the wheat and makes his own flour, as well as grows the olives and makes his own olive oil, not to mention the tomatoes of course. The restaurant has many tables but when we were there it was more like their family and dining room, with a fire going, TV on, and kids studying. Oh and did I mention Nino also makes his own wine which we both enjoyed frequently. The hospitality was amazing, informal and genuine. When Elena noticed that my daughter devoured all her polenta-like cookies she pulled a fresh batch out of the oven for us the morning we left. Nino also gave me a kg of his amazing pizza flour to take home and tried to give me a 5l jug of his wine which I unfortunately had to decline as I didn't think US customs would look to favorably upon that.||Don't come here looking for a five star hotel, come instead to enjoy a truly unique and genuine personal experience in an amazing mountain village. One final note, my Italian vocabulary is very limited but we still found ourselves able to communicate well with Elena and Nino. Food and wine tend to be the...
