Al Moiariello — Restaurant in Naples

The restaurant is located inside the Culture Hotel, and it felt very much like a typical hotel restaurant — make of that what you will.

We chose it for our last dinner in Italy since we were staying at the hotel. We were seated immediately as the dining room had just opened and was still empty. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the only quick part of the evening.

After our order was taken, the server rarely returned unless flagged down, and while bread was brought to the table (as is customary in Italy), no oil or vinegar accompanied it.

When the food finally arrived, there was some confusion. We had ordered the traditional filet al pepe verde, which translates as “fillet with green peppers.” We expected peppers, but it’s actually a fillet served in a creamy green peppercorn sauce with capers. Not the restaurant’s fault, but worth noting for those unfamiliar with the dish.

My own entrée, however, was missing an ingredient. I had remembered it was supposed to include sausage, but assumed I had misunderstood until I later checked the display menu and confirmed the sausage was indeed omitted.

For dessert, some of our group tried the daily special panna cotta. It looked beautiful but was underwhelming in taste. My girlfriend almost never leaves dessert unfinished, but even with my help, nearly half remained untouched.

Overall, service was inattentive, food execution uneven, and flavors forgettable. For a hotel restaurant, it wasn’t shocking — but as a final dinner in Italy, it was...
