This restaurant was recommended by our B&B host. As we walked in, a particular young waiter refused to take us in. The owner, however, saw us, came over, refuted the waiter, and welcomed us to a table. We didn't know what happened; we were simply glad to be able to have a sat down lunch after driving over 2 hours with an empty stomach.
We are the adventurous types in terms of food. Once we saw eels and sea snails on the menu, we had to try them. We also ordered grilled vegetables to complete the meal. The waitress seemed surprised but happy that we ordered these dishes. The owner also came over to chit chat, but unfortunately, we could only communicate with body language.
The eels were boney as expected. Since it was not the first time we had eels, we managed to pick out all the tiny bones. If you have never tried it before, don't say I never warn you. The eels were extremely fresh. If they were not, trust me, we would know because they would give out this distinctive taste/smell. The sea snails tasted like escargot. They don't surprise me that much; it was the tomato sauce that caught my attention. It elevated my taste buds so much that I had to dip bread in it to clean the plate. The grilled vegetables were done in the typical Sardinian way - fully caramelized and cooked in olive oil. No further explanation was necessary.
Besides our table sat a Sardinian couple. They were eating the same dishes as we did. As we departed the table, they asked us in English what we thought about the Sardinian food. We said we loved all of them. With a satisfactory look, they wished us a good journey.
If you are adventurous like us, this restaurant is a must go. But try to avoid eye contact with the young waiter and search for the owner as you step in. That way, you will be able to secure a table. Joking aside, they had other dishes on the menu that were less adventurous. We simply did not have the stomach to try after our...
Read moreGreat experience! We could immediately sit down when we got there, and were greeted by the owner who asked if we wanted the food the traditional way or if we’d rather have pizza. Though he could not speak a lot of English, communications went well with the help of a very kind waitress and his humor got across even without English. We got three courses to share, which was more than enough food for the five of us. Each course was explained by the waitress. The food was delicious and came fast. The owner joked with us and gave us a free shot of liquor at the end of the evening. Great food with...
