Da Renato — Restaurant in Orbetello

We were driving from Elba to Civitavecchia and would not have chosen this place normally but our options were limited - at this time of the year (January) most hotels were closed and/or didn't have restaurants. It had also just turned dark and the road - supposedly a motorway - was in poor condition and continually narrowing from 2 lanes to one and back again. The room was old and tired, the floor was cold tiles with no bedside mats and the water was turned off sometime during the night. When I informed them in the morning it was turned on again but there was no hot water before we left. The only modern feature was a tiny wall-mounted TV with only Italian programmes. However the restaurant had a good ambience and the food was rather good - big metal plates of very tasty pasta and grilled seafood brought to the table where it was served (as usual in Italy) onto stone-cold plates...! Owners...

I enjoyed a descent meal here on my last evening in Tuscany. We booked ahead just in case as it was a Friday night...and it was indeed busy! Anyways, to start I went for the tagliere maremmano (mixed cold cuts and cheese antipasto). And overall I was pleased, I didn't get too little and I didn't get too much...all the cured meats were decent and same goes for the cheese. As a main meal I had a pizza, one called DOC. It was a very good sized pizza and came with the usual tomato base and mozzarella, along with cream of truffles and Bresaola (cured beef). The dough was light and crispy, just the way I like it and the small nuggets of truffle accompanied the Bresaola very well, so I was very pleased with my pizza. Overall great value for money and friendly and professional staff. Happy to give it 5 stars. :D So, if ya stuck with where to go, this place is definitely...

I stayed there for a few nights. It was a quiet nice hotel in a quiet little town. It was perfect after busy Roma. I was very impressed with the food at the restaurant. I think it was the best meal I had during my 2 week travel in Italy. I had lunch and dinner, and both times it was delicious, freshly made and with great service. Tiramisu was unlike I ever tasted before. I want to go back there when I am...
