Semplice Osteria — Restaurant in Passignano sul Trasimeno

One of the most awful experiences in a restaurant we have had.

I do not like to give bad reviews instead choose to ‘move on’ but feel compelled in this case to do so as it was so awful in everyway. We arrived and sat down and was asked what we would like to drink by a fed up looking waitress who was immediately shoved out of the way by a short/bald little person who clearly had delusions of grandeur or some other anger or superioty issue. He cut her off and aske us the very same question she had done. We asked for various drinks and 3 soft drinks to which he brusquely replied ‘NO!!! Water or alcohol only- nothing else” we were perplexed by this as we could clearly see another table with soft drinks. Not wanting to challenge him we carried on and ordered our food whilst trying to ignore the complaints being made by the table behind us. More fool us. Whilst waiting for the food to arrive we were ‘entertained’ by arguments between what we thought might be the chef, scolding’s being given to the poor waitresses and numerous altercations between said owner/manager/ short bald man and other guests. We were hoping that when the food arrived this might make up for the terrible service and awful, awful atmosphere but unfortunately it did not. I can only assume given other reviews, that the chef was having an ‘off day’ due to the owner/manager/ short bald man having an ‘off day’ – The food was just as bad as the attitude of the ‘manager’. It was either dry, unseasoned, not cooked enough or too much, the potatoes were quite obviously left overs from the previous day warmed up, just horrendous. One of our partie tried to flag up this up with the ‘manager’ but he angrily shut her down and told her to ‘WAIT!!’ We visited this place wanting a nice evening with family and friends as part of our holiday. We were there for less than an hour. What we got was a highly toxic environment with substandard food at a cost. We would never go back and we wound certainly...

Terrible experience. Basil Fawlty comes to mind. We have all been through stress and in difficult situations, but the rudeness of the man in charge was inexplicable and inexcusable. From the moment we walked in - smiling and happy, to a quiet and empty restaurant - he seemed angry with us for existing. He did not listen to us and in the end, not listening (and visibly bullying his colleagues) led to a potentially dangerous mistake whereby one of our party was fed an allergen she had explicitly said she could not eat: the man's response was that she should just go and make herself sick. He did not care for the outcome or her wellbeing, until it appeared he thought twice and worried about potential fallout for himself: he pushed his way into the bathroom and accosted her while she was vomiting. Meanwhile, an hour and a half later the rest of us had no food, the wrong food and a friend in medical distress. All that is required is kindness and the ability to show the most basic level of hospitality. My advice to the owner of the restaurant is to choose and train staff who can offer a warm welcome, listen to guests and work well as part of a team with...

Honestly this place would not be the top of my list, we booked a table of six for Simplice Osteria and was welcomed by a lovely waitress. She was rushed away by a rude, obnoxious, older waiter. He took our orders. We had just ordered mains and he proceeded to place three starters on the table, we made it clear they wasn’t ours and he didn’t mention anything, smiled and walked away.

A few moments later the table behind us had became extremely upset as they had fed her gluten when she made it clear she was intolerant. They then proceeded to ask where there starters are, he rushed off then came to our table and had a go at us for eating it, when we made it clear we didn’t order and he smiled and said ‘no worries’ this was put on our bill. Moving on to our food I had the gnocchi which had no meat in, it was cold, plain and tasteless, the potato’s was all cold.

So in a nutshell the service was awful, the main waiter was SO RUDE and the food was not up to standard. We wasn’t the only ones not happy the whole restaurant had a lot to say on the food...
