Very good good but the service could be improved. I was travelling alone to Calabria and decided to plan a stop at this restaurant as I m a fan of good food and I spotted this place with very good reviews on internet. I wanted to book a table in advance but it was only possible for 2 people or more (not one). So I arrived with the train at around 12:20 on a thursday in August. The restaurant looked open so I entered but there was nobody at the reception. I waited a good 10min before a waiter came and ,after a phone call, told me that I could eat only in 20min. I accepted to wait and I was installed while the waiter finished to get dressed with his working suit. I had the impression to bother with my coming. I asked him if I was too early but he told that no it was normal... Overall I was alone in the restaurant, I juste saw two other customers that have come during my lunch. I got some gressini and bread to wait. For the food I was not given a menu to choose the dishes, but only verbal propositions from the waiter. I decided to trust his recommandations and I was not disapointed. I had an Octopus tentacle as a starter, very well cooked, at the limit of over saltiness but yet really on point. Then some spaghetti with mussels. For me the best dish I had on this day, both original and extremely tasty. Then I had some fish with spinage as a garnish. The fish was perfectly cooked, I juste wished the garnish was a bit more elaborated. As a conclusion I would recommand this place for the food, it is original, tasty and one can clearly feel that the quality is above "standard restaurants" that can be found on touritic places. I paid around 65€ for 3 dishes and one bottle of water+ a coffee. In regards to the products and the served quantities it would say that it is on average, but not necessarily a extremely good deal. I think the experience could be improved by small details, for instance bringing some little "amuse bouches" in between the dishes,or even some butter or oil with the bread, some biscuits with the coffee... In my case I would indeed have appreciated to get a small attention or a drink to reward my waiting, unfortunetaly I rather felt like I was more disturbing than wished as...
Read moreDinner. Located along one of the most beautiful coasts of the Vibo area near the characteristic town of Pizzo Calabro. Housed inside an ancient stone farmhouse completely renovated, just a few steps from the local beach. The restaurant has a large outdoor garden where, in good weather, you can dine on the terrace.
The menu for the evening was a six course tasting. Consisting top quality local fresh ingredients, all prepared by Chef Giuseppe Romano. We had pre-drink of a very large Negroni. This is followed by some very tasty Arancini.
Once seated at the table, the chef brought out a selection of snacks that completely filled the table. King prawn with bergamot cream cheese. Seaweed wrap with feta and poached mussel. Tempura stuffed courgette flowers prawn with njuda. Alice and courgette bergamot dressing. Sea urchin breaded. Home-made breads.
Octopus with smoked mozzarella & cumin sauces. Calamari with Nduja and creamed pumpkin. Black ink pasta with tomatoes & clams. Pan fried fish (similar to parrot fish) sparago with creamed potatoes and spinach. Dessert. Bignet with lemon and fruits of the forest.
Everything was cooked to perfection and all served by Chef Giuseppe. It was just like having your own personal chef, which made for an excellent evening dining out in...
Read moreAbsolute disgrace.
The place obviously used to be good as it’s on the Michelin guide but it’s clearly gone down hill. If you are thinking of coming for this reason, don’t bother.
It was an utterly bizarre experience from start to finish and we came away feeling conned. We were told it was a tasting menu but we weren’t allowed to see what the dishes were or what the prices were - how very odd. Then the waiter delivered the food to our table without telling us what we were being served which was very strange and rude. We literally had no idea what we were eating, but whatever it was was bang average.
We had to ask for olive oil with the bread and ask twice for an ice bucket for the wine. The waiter was slow and unfriendly. He didn’t once ask us if we liked the food.
Also a very strange location for a restaurant, behind some apartments.
Overall it was terrible and not even worthy of one star. If we could give it zero we would. Avoid...
