Ristorante Don Carlo — Restaurant in Pula

The Restaurant is in a beautiful location. However, on a culinary level and service-wise it can’t match other Sardinian Restaurants in the same price range.

Among the dishes we tried: Catalan style shrimps and octopus with shallots: Was served with rubbery calamari instead of octopus. Shallots only served after asking Carloforte style seared Tuna: The Tuna was drenched in sauce and cooked to medium. Not at all seared and comparable to the seared Tuna we had in Carloforte, crisp on the outside and red on the inside To their credit, the Tartars and the Pasta were all very good. One more detail: The presentation of all dishes is almost identical with fried Carasau and pistachios.

The service is not very attentive and only the chef de service could speak English.

Lastly, for a restaurant which caters to a resort audience that might stay a week, it is unacceptable to serve the same menu all week with just four different main courses (none of them vegetarian) If you stay at the resort, we can only recommend to also check restaurants in the surrounding area, there are definitely better ones.

Last saturday we had lunch at Don Carlo restaurant and then spent some time in the garden. I must say, it is one of the best places in the south of Sardinia. Beside the amazing view- the restaurant is overlooking the beach, the food was very fresh and delicious (we had seafood) and the staff was very kind and attentive. We came with our one year old son, the waiters were super attentive and friendly- upon the arrival in the restaurant, the high chair for him was already there and they heated up the food his food right away. After lunch we spent some time in the garden by the pool. It is one of the most magical and relaxing places I have ever been to- the flowers and other mediterranean plants are just mesmerizing, the beds and gazebos are between the palm trees and you have a lot of privacy and you relax right away. Many of the hotel restaurants do not have a good reputation, but the Don Carlo restaurant is the opposite- it is a great restaurant with delicious food and very good service. We came for lunch, ordered seafood and it was super fresh. The staff was very friendly and quick. We sat in the outdoor section of the restaurant, overlooking the sea and the beach, which was really relaxing and beautiful. After lunch we walked through the amazing sensory garden - it is very well maintained, clean and simply beautiful.
