Meringo — Restaurant in Ripi

We have been coming here for years as it was one of my dad’s favourite places when we visit from Toronto. The ice cream is always incredible. However tonight we were greeted by the rudest woman who stated she is the owners daughter; she handled herself so unprofessionally and the way she spoke to us so rude. We were all taken back. We were just trying to figure our order with the language barrier with cousins. Didn’t realize she was stressing out. Maybe. She doesn’t like Canadians? Doesn’t matter who you are or who’s daughter you are; you help run a business, you represent your family and your company name. Lost all my taste...

It's massive - and not just a gelateria (it also serves food during the evening)! But being a gelateria is what Meringo is famous for. My standard choice is amarena, or wild cherry ice-cream. It's what I judge all ice-cream makers by. I am pleased to say that Meringo make a good amarena. I had it with panna cotta which is a bit like butterscotch both very good. Ci sarebbe tanto da dire su questo locale, innanzitutto la location: spaziosa e molto ampia sia in lunghezza che in larghezza, con ampie tavolate che la fanno assomigliare a una grande mensa aziendale (qualcuno la potrà trovare "triste", qualcun altro "accogliente", sono gusti). Il menù assomiglia al locale: ci sono un sacco di alternative, sia salate sia - soprattutto - dolci. Si possono mangiare panini, fare aperitivi e bere vari prodotti di caffetteria. Io ci sono andato con una mia amica e abbiamo ordinato un waffle e un pancake, entrambi al cioccolato bianco: costo di 4€ per entrambi. Erano discreti, ma mancava uno "sprint" di sapore, un qualcosa in più che li rendesse memorabili. Il costo era di 9€, acqua compresa, e io ho pagato con una banconota da 20€: ho avuto l'impressione che il cameriere, nell'atto di darmi il resto, mi abbia lanciato l'euro con una certa noncuranza, quasi a volermelo sbattere in faccia. Anche la mia amica ha avuto la stessa impressione, infatti mi ha detto subito: "L'euro te l'ha lanciato addosso!". Non posso avere la certezza che sia andata così, comunque lo segnalo, visto che ho notato molte recensioni in cui ci si lamentava del servizio. Comunque ci tornerei, intanto per provare il gelato - che dovrebbe essere la specialità della casa - e poi perchè vorrei avere la conferma o la smentita sulla mia sensazione negativa...
