Am Gleis — Restaurant in Salten-Schlern - Salto-Sciliar

This restaurant is set within a beautiful space facing over a view of mountains that’s lovely in the summer months. The menu is well designed with a selection of classic dishes and a vegetarian option. However the wines are listed in a haphazard and confusing way, no descriptions, tasting notes or origin or help with pairing.

The waiting staff pleasant but formal.

As noted by other reviewers the portions are on the small size, this was my experience. My pasta dish lacked a good amount of ragù and the smaller “penne” pasta seemed small for this type of dish. On the plus side the starter of caprino was delicious and well balanced on a plate of chopped melon.

It was a bit late after we finished a full day of activities and called the restaurant at 20:45 to check for availability. The manager kindly replied that they will wait for us. This is a cute, local diner and the food was DELICIOUS and with generous portion. We particularly liked the wood garlic pasta, the vegetable risotto was surprisingly good. Veal cheek very soft. Nothing was too salty, the flavours are just right. Also ordered 3 desserts and they are all refreshing and satisfying. We took the cable car to Oberbozen while staying in Bolzano and after going for a walk decided to visit this restaurant since it had high reviews. We had some lovely drinks and snacks (he made me a Black Russian, my favourite drink + we sampled his own Christmas themed cocktail with vodka flavoured with a Carolina reaper chilli that was great!) while sitting outside looking out over the beautiful countryside.
