Trattoria Pizzeria Dei Platani — Restaurant in San Siro

I hate to give a bad rating to a small, local business, but in this case I have to. We stayed in an apartment near the restaurant and I had been looking forward to trying it. We arrived early thinking we would take a walk down to the lake before dinner.

The restaurant was open so we went in. We were informed it was only open for drinks, but they would start serving dinner soon. My companions stayed for a drink while I took the walk downhill to the lake.

Other people started coming in but my companions waited for me to return from my walk. Rather than set aside an outdoor table for us when we were there early they made us sit inside.

We were there on a Tuesday night, supposedly a slow day. They had no fish options and other menu items were unavailable, so it was basically pizza or a few pasta dishes.

First time in Italy staying up the street from this little restaurant, it’s such a cool spot. We ended up eating here at least 5 times throughout our trip and came to get coffee every morning. The family who Owns it are great and very kind. They barely speak English which I love, the whole experience was so authentic. We traveled all over Italy while we were here; Milan, all the local towns on the lake and in Lugano Switzerland. None of the food we had, even the much more expensive restaurants were as good at this place. I love the view off the veranda too, could sit here for hours and just soak it all up. This is a must visit if you are in the area and looking for a low key place to have a reasonably priced and over performing culinary experience. Grazie Mile’! Really good service with a great view of the lake and surrounding mountains.

My wife got the Il Pomodoro and I got the Piccante Pizza (w/o anchovies). My wife said the pasta was a 4 out of 5. She found it really good and could tell fresh ingredients were used when preparing the tomato sauce. As for the pizza, I give it a 4 out of 5. The taste was good but nothing out of this world good (for it to be a 5 out of 5).

For dessert, we got the tiramisu and a cappuccino. The tiramisu didn't have a very strong coffee taste. It tasted good but I wish the taste of coffee was more than it was. Giving that a 4 out of 5. The cappuccino was a 4 out of 5. It was good, but I've had better in the area.

Lastly, the price was fair and they don't overcharge like a lot places in the area do.
