Disappointing, overpriced and far below expectations: My experience at Restaurant Gusto (180€ per person)
We visited on Saturday, June 15, 2024.
Starters
• Pseudomoule: Very good, with effort. Beautiful construction. • Oyster: Exceptional (“Wow”). 10 out of 10. • Lobster: Very good. 8.5 out of 10. • Fish soup: 3/10, disappointing; lacks depth… sad presentation, mushy texture.
Main Course
• Ossobuco: 6/10, average. It was okay. Choosing monk fish is a departure from the norm, but the taste was just ordinary!
Desserts
• Pre-dessert: An apple jelly. My friend simply described it as: “it’s very good compared to hospital jello in Quebec”. • Main dessert: Simply bad. We just didn’t eat it…
Service
• Mathilde: Very good efforts (+++). • Marina: Service errors by passing on the left repeatedly, although there was space. • Sommelier: Language barrier? He quickly showed us the bottle, mentioned the grape variety, and we often had to ask about the region. He never explained his choice or the wine’s history. Very disappointing in the context of a 1 Michelin star.
Overall, a great disappointment in terms of quality consistency, service quality, and...

Every course was part of a narrative; it was a lyric poem told in flavors that introduced to me parts of Sardinia I would not have known otherwise. The staff were impeccable and took care of us like in the Homeric tradition where we treat guests like royalty or even deity. The stories experience last over three hours and by the time we were done, our sense felt invigorated. Besana came out to greet us, and we thanked him for his artistry. I would've gladly paid over €500 for the experience, but the meals for the both of us came to €329: a bargain really when one considers what they're getting in the experience, care, and attention to detail for over three hours. Thank you for the exquisite welcome to San Teodoro and to...
Read moreThe service was really bad… When we sat down we noticed that there were lipstick marks on our water glasses. We pointed this out to our waiter who returned 5 minutes later with the same glasses with a little bit less marks on it. He just tried to wipe it off instead of giving us new glasses! We pointed it out again and eventually after 20 minutes we got new glasses. Absolutely not something you expect from a Michelin star restaurant!
The food was good, but I had better at a Michelin star restaurant. The outside seating is OK, but lots...
