Had a meal here on our last night in Italy and this place was nothing short of sensational.
As many have noted English is not a primary language but the owner was more than willing to try and assist. There were menus in English and the owner tried to help where he could. We've a very basic understanding of Italian but he helped us out where he could.
We shared a starter (Salami mixed platter) and a primi patti (Stragnozzi Alla Norcina - a creamy pasta and cheesy sausage dish) before individual secondi piatti of a Fiorentina di Chianina and a filleto al lardo. The seconds were not for the faint hearted and the owner tried to tell us before asking the chef (his wife I believe) to cook them. These dishes were exceptional, the Fiorentina was 1.36 KG's and i ate almost all of it. Both we're cooked perfectly and served beautifully.
My wife had a glass of house red wine and the owner seeing there wasn't a full glass remaining gave her the rest of the bottle. Between our primi and secondi the owner set our table and asked if we wanted olive oil etc and reveled I telling us that the wine producer was from the same supplier as the olive oil. A local family from Umbria..
The bread basket prepared again by the owners wife was a milk bread and was so good we had to get more.
We were too full for desserts and had a lovely coffee to finish our experience here.
After we paid the owner spoke to us in broken English asking where we were from (Ireland) why we were in the area (vacation), where we were staying (a couple of towns over) and how we'd heard about his restaurant (through Google). He spoke about where he was from (la spezia) and how he came to be here and how his wife was from Umbria and how the restaurant served dishes she knew.
Apologies if there's errors here, this can be assigned to the language barrier.
It was a privilege to spend an evening in this familys company. They were so accommodating and it's a pity this is our last night here.
We'd love to come back in the future with a bit more Italian to talk with and enjoy our hosts...
Read moreWe ate couple of times here, for lunch and dinner. Will not list everything we ate, since it’s a lot, but loved everything. A surprise was their red house wine, I order “house” wine on very rare occasions since I don’t think it’s good one, but this one I will remember as probably the best red house wine I ever had! I really recommend this restaurant and probably will go few more times before we...
