We stayed at Fonteverde, but wanted to check out San Cassiano so we walked to this place and gave it a whirl considering Michelin.
Daniela is a very sweet woman who runs the two adjoining businesses, feels very homey and warm. Restaurant is inside converted horse stables from the 1600~, just amazing. Whole town is like that, highly recommend you walk around.
We had a knowledgeable waiter who spoke English quite well and helped me navigate the menu for my gluten free needs.
My wife had the famous Tuscan soup with bread and loved it. She then had the tagliateli and while the meat ragu was fine, the pasta was amazing.
I had the sweet and sour pork, not the cheap Chinese restaurant dish, but pork sweetened with local fruit. It was delicious and a very unique flavor profile. However it was quite small, which is unfortunately a rather common Italian feature in nice restaurants. My appetizer choice was very limited, so a simple caprese for me - it was fine, nothing special. Tomatoes with a hunk of mozzarella.

Overall, definitely on the expensive side, but you get dishes with rich and deep flavors. Worth an experience if you are...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended by the concierge at my hotel (Fonteverde). I had some trouble understanding the directions about parking, so I will help you for all future trips into medieval towns.
You have to park outside and walk in.
Fortunately, the parking lot is not far from Daniela's.
The menu was structured rather typically for an Italian restaurant: Starters, first courses and main courses. I was not 3 or really 2 courses hungry, but I was contemplating the Tuscan vegetable soup with bread (in it) and another first course of hand made wide pasta with wild boar and hare ragu OR the main course of rabbit.
My waitress didn't speak enough English to debate the virtues of one dish vs. the other but someone at a nearby table overheard and came over to help. She was Daniela.
She confirmed that the pasta was very special and my decision was made. If you were wondering about soup with bread in it, I will merely say that 1000 years of Tuscan grandmothers can't be wrong. As for the pasta, ...
Read moreAfter staying in a Fonteverde hotel nearby, we decided to explore the small town of San Casciano di Bagni and came across Ristorante Daniela. The town only has very few restaurants and its very local and not many tourists which makes it even more authentic.
The owner Daniela welcomed us and introduced herself as the owner and even took our orders and had recommendations for the food selection. We had the melted truffle pecorini cheese as starter, ravioli with ricotta and spinach and lamb loin. All of which were excellent! We had a white Tuscan wine with it called Senti Oh! That was great.
For dessert we had their home made ice cream, pistachio and hazelnut. Not to be missed!
Our whole experience was excellent and the nice touch of senora Daniela greeting us and asking for our opinion made it extra special. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a great authentic Tuscan meal.
She also has a small store connected with the restauranr with hand picked wines for sale and also cheeses and...
