Authentic Jamaican Dining Experience. A group of us dined last night at Erica's Hideaway and we all rated the meal as one of our all time favorites in Negril. As previously noted, the owner Ms. Vivienne is a warm and welcoming presence. All of the meals are homemade and cooked to order. We had heard that the fried chicken was a house specialty, and it deserves the famous reputation. Fried chicken can be tricky to make, but Vivienne's recipe was seasoned perfectly and the three pieces were juicy and delicious. The lobster chop suey was out of the this world delicious. We had really cold Red Stripes and bold rum punches, both reasonably priced and not inflated - better prices than happy hours elsewhere.
And the atmosphere matches the food - warm and inviting with comfortable indoor tables. Outdoor seating is available in a front courtyard as well. All prices listed in Jamaican dollars and everything was clearly marked on a large chalkboard on the wall. Great food and incredible value. Recommend completely.
Edit to add: the fried chicken comes with a jerk dipping sauce on the side. This sauce was really tasty and not overly spicy - the perfect balance of mild smoky sweetness and a slight...
Read moreOur meals at Erica’s Hideaway this past week were among the favorite of my life. The restaurant, a collection of colorfully-painted structures set back from the main road and open to the air, has been here for over 30 years and was recently taken over by DJ after his mother Erica died. The host, Vivienne welcomes you with a warm smile and a wry joke and offers you a tour of the garden where calaloo, achee, peas, scotch bonnets, and other delicacies grow. Each night we ordered a plate of these veggies lightly steamed and flavored with a hint of cane vinegar and local spices with rice and peas on the side. They are absolutely magical - I could eat this every night for the rest of my life. The lobster, caught local and served with butter and garlic, is more hedonistic than the nearby nude resorts 🍑. We spent about $40 each night including beers. Do not miss Erica’s if you come to Nergril...
Read moreUpon arriving to Erica's,we were greated with warm smiles and a cozy atmosphere. After eating at the resort for 3 days the buffet food lost its appeal. We were ecstatic to try some authentic Jamaican cuisine. We were hesitant about leaving the resort. Everyone makes Jamaica sound so scary. It was my favorite part of the trip! Without Erica's we would not know the true Jamaican food experience. It was so delicious, we went 3 days in a row!!! I enjoyed the curry conch the first day. It paired great with the coldest beer on the island. The second day I got the traditional conch. The third day we had some Jamaican jerk chicken. DJ (chef and owner) also treated us to ackee and breadfruit. Not only was the food absolutely amazing, the people were fantastic as well. DJ and Vivian were hospitable, friendly and genuine. Thank you DJ and Vivian for showing us the...
