First off i will say Bar was fun and atmosphere was great. Long waits for food but food was good. Biggest problem here and reason for 1 star review is the overly aggressive local solicitors selling weed and bracelets from the edges of the property lines at the beach... Secondly i have nothing against what they are selling and I get that everyone needs to make money but they do not like the answer no thanks and can get pretty aggressive about it. Even if your friendly about it. If it wasn't for that it would be a great place but I could not walk the beach without someone approaching me and trying to pull me to the side to sell me something or trying to tie bracelets to my arm.... I was there for a total of 1 hour and was approached 6 times and only on the beach for about 20 mins of the hour..
There is security on the beach to keep it from happening on the property somewhat but they will meet you on the property being super friendly then ask you to step over the edge of the property to talk where the rope divides the properties to get away from security that's when it goes from friendly conversation to the sales routine. So I would say it's probably a known problem.
Even staying in the middle of the beach they would have runners come up to you and ask you to come over to talk to random guys on the fence line... when telling these guys no thanks they thought that was a sign of disrespect and then turn aggressive so there is no winning.
Again the worst part of the experience is not they are selling stuff it's that they do not like no for an answer and see it as disrespect instead of not interested and it definitely ruins the experience on the beach. People...
Read moreWe stopped by Margaritaville in Negril before a catamaran cruise to Rick’s grill! It was quite crowded when we walked in, and we were sort of herded towards the bar to sit down. There was a lot to take in and we didn’t really have a lot of time. I thought we had more time but only about 30 minutes. So we sat at the bar and looked at the menu…. The drinks looked amazing, but wow, blown away at the prices. $10-20 a drink plus 10% consumption tax and tips made this a one and done bar for us. I had some sort of a Mule which was tasty but basically $3-4 a mouthful and mostly ice. While we were waiting for our drinks a magician in a sort of clown outfit came around. I knew the plan, show some tricks for tips. Really, we just wanted to enjoy our drinks and talk about our adventure to come, but trying to be kind we all turned around and watched the “rejoining a cut rope” trick etc. despite him saying it was a free show we had a had pushed to each one of us to collect tips.
All in all, the visit here was a bit more in my face than I was ready for at that time of day.
The beach out back was the staging area for our catamaran. All loungers were already taken and it was crowded. Be prepared to be aggressively harassed to buy things from the beach vendors. Had a guy literally trying to jam haggard ganja sticks into my hand as we were walking away, angry that I didn’t want to give him $5 for garbage weed I didn’t want. Another noticed my Jamaica shirt and was desperately trying to get me to walk over to him, getting angrier as I refused. Not really a part of Margaritaville, but the attached experience 5 seconds after...
Read moreAs many others have pointed out, the overly aggressive local solicitors completely ruin the experience of visiting Margaritaville, which is supposed to be a place to relax and unwind. My girlfriend and I couldn’t go more than two minutes without being approached by street vendors who simply refused to take no for an answer.
While there is security on-site, they often do nothing to stop this harassment. In fact, some of the security guards were seen chatting and joking with the solicitors right at the property lines, which was incredibly frustrating.
We were given a ticket for an umbrella to hand to the lifeguard, but when we went to the lifeguard post, there was no one there. After some searching, we found the lifeguard lying down on a beach chair in regular clothes, making it impossible to identify him as the lifeguard.
To top it all off, we got caught in a thunderstorm while at the restaurant, and the power went out completely. You’d think a franchise as large as Margaritaville would have a backup generator to prevent this, but apparently not!
The only reason I’m even giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because of our bartender, Billy, who was amazing—friendly, accommodating, and the only bright spot in an otherwise...
