I need to remember to ignore reviews from Americans in English. I saw this pizza place maybe a year ago and have wanted to try it since then. Yesterday I went and unfortunately it was a disappointing experience.
My intent is not to hurt the business - I want Slappy Slice to succeed.
That being said after seeing so many rave reviews I was really shocked at how mediocre the pizza was. New York pizza is thin and crispy. I'd argue it needs to be foldable but the crust at Slappy Slice needs work because it has no integrity and the pizza when picked up in the traditional way is so flaccid that most of the toppings just slough off. For a 2000+ pizza that's just not acceptable. There's so much pizza competition in Okinawa right now that I can get better pizza, faster for the same price many places.
The toppings were very flavorful and good. The ambiance was nice. Parking was acceptable. If Slappy Slice sorts out their crust I think they'll have a solid product. I do feel that the pizza took a surprisingly long time but that could be skewed because I was hungry. Also a handmade, craft product will take longer which...
Read moreThis is a great little find. The parking is a little limited, just two spots across the street, but I was lucky enough to snag one. The pizza is a New York style with a thin crunchy crust with just enough chew. You will have the option to just get pizza, either by the slice or a whole pizza, or as a meal that comes with a drink and ceaser salad. Both the pizza and salad pizza are good, I will definitely be back. The staff were extremely friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quiet and has a homey feel to it as most of the furniture is from, what looks like, thrift stores. It is a neat idea. It also carries a heavy skate boarder theme that runs throughout the restaurant. So if you like New York style pizza with a Japanese twist this is a spot to check out. Oh and just leave the try on the table they will take care of it...
Read moreAwesome pizza place, with a good parking area. With the location I was a little worried about the parking but they have a decent sized parking area. The staff were friendly and none of the food took long to come. The pizza isn’t greasy which I really liked and they have a lot of variety to choose from. I chose from the displayed pizza because I just wanted to buy by the slice. The squid & broccoli was very good, exceeded my expectations. It was a good amount of food for the price. Same with the Garlic Chicken, both came on a bed of lettuce. Definitely try this place out, I’ll be going back soon to try all the other types of...
