This will be my English review. To Foreigners: Gopps is one of the few places in Chitose you can have meaningful interactions without speaking strong Japanese. I was a regular and miss it often. Maru-chan and the staff are amazing people. It's special to me because it was the place I said goodbye to my bestie. It's also the place I found a boyfriend (a genuine one, not a gaijin-hunter). Although there are other places in Chitose to have a drink, this one is super close to the station; even more than that, it's delicious. Without speaking Japanese, it's going to be hard to find most of the other bars and izakayas in Chitose. I've been to others, but I am partial to Gopps. Do you remember Cheers the TV show? If you're a regular you get that feeling. It can be very lonely in Japan, but I found friends there (friends I'd invite to my wedding if I weren't overseas!).
Other than warm and fuzzies, the food is good. I am vegetarian. It's not easy finding vegetarian food in Japan. Fortunately, Gopps understood my restriction. I frequently had this creamy noodle dish with mushrooms. It was sooooooo good. It was so good I had to double check it wasn't meat the first time I had it! The fried foods were always hot, crispy, and on point. I also ate this honey and cheese pizza. I never had that combination prior to Gopps; it was fantastic. They make tasty drinks. I usually ordered umeshuu, a Moscow Mule, or Malibu Rum and Coke; however, they make amazing mixed drinks too. I would test my Japanese and tastebuds by asking for a drink in a specific flavor. I remember having a drink for Christmas that was very sweet; Merry Christmas was written in sugar on the base of the glass and rim. Please order a warm drink when it's a snowy Hokkaido day. It is perfect.
Lastly if you feel hesitation when dealing with a Gopps staff, please don't take it personally. I've lived in Chitose for many years and a lot foreigners come for winter sports and festivals, but are argumentative and down right combative if: 1) they are lost, 2) staff doesn't speak English/Mandarin, 3) film without consent. The staff might have had a horrible interaction with a foreigner earlier and anxious. However, you should voice when you're uncomfortable, just in...
