Bigboy Hachinohe Shiroshita (ビッグボーイ 八戸城下店) delivers solid food, decent service, and a family-friendly atmosphere—but don’t come expecting American steakhouse portions or serene dining. Think family restaurant with perks like an unlimited salad bar and rice, plus a user-friendly tablet for ordering. Surprisingly well-cooked steak and juicy cuts make it worth a visit—as long as your expectations are in check.
Full Review:
Bigboy Hachinohe Shiroshita (ビッグボーイ 八戸城下店) may market itself as a steakhouse, but let’s be real—it’s more in the family restaurant category. And depending on who you are and what kind of dining experience you’re after, that can either be a red flag or a green light.
For families with kids in tow, it’s likely a great option. The place seems to attract similar family units: young children, parents managing mealtime chaos, and an overall laid-back, kid-friendly vibe. But if you’re a solo diner or a couple looking for a quieter meal—or you’re just not in the mood to hear a toddler’s high-pitched screech while cutting into your steak—you might want to steer clear during peak hours.
The experience, however, was smoother than I anticipated. Upon entry, you’re expected to fill out a form at the front—your name, party size, and such—before being seated by a host. After that, everything is handled through a tablet at the table. Surprisingly, this tablet includes multiple languages (English, Chinese, Korean, in addition to Japanese), which makes ordering a breeze, especially for travelers.
Now, about that steak. While the portion sizes weren’t anything to write home about—modest rather than “Bigboy”—the quality was actually quite impressive. It came out well-cooked, well-seasoned, and surprisingly juicy. The texture was soft, just as the menu had promised. And that was a pleasant surprise. Far too often, restaurants tend to oversell how tender or flavorful their proteins are, but here, the steak delivered.
Beyond the meat, there’s more on offer. The unlimited salad bar was a nice touch, with a fair range of offerings, and there’s an unlimited rice option that’s always welcome. Where things dipped slightly was with the drink bar. While “unlimited drinks” sounds promising, the execution fell short—no recognizable name brands, no sparkling water, and an overwhelmingly sugary soft drink that tasted like it was 90% syrup and food coloring. Still, I’ll give credit where it’s due: the drink glasses were stylish, a small but appreciated detail.
Service was polite, food came out fairly quickly, and the overall space was clean and functional. It’s not a date night spot or a steak-lover’s paradise, but it is a good place to get a satisfying meal with minimal hassle—especially if you manage your expectations.
In the end, Bigboy Hachinohe Shiroshita is a reliable option if you’re in the mood for something casual, efficient, and kid-friendly. And with steak that’s actually juicy and well-cooked, it earns a solid spot in the “surprisingly...
Read moreEverything here tastes bad. Everything. Dirty restaurant. Staff was good and polite. Steak tasted like poop was mixed in, corn soup is worse than the powder packets from the grocery store. Curry is bland. Chicken is bland. Dishes are cheap but the add-ons cost just as much as the main dish, overall too expensive.
They still ask you to throw napkins and disposables away in plastic bags, every other restaurant has removed such covid measures.
