For a truly unique and relaxing experience along the Hakone Tozan Railway, the Switchbacks Cafe is an absolute must-visit. Tucked away in one of the train's scenic switchbacks, this hidden gem offers a delightful escape from the everyday.

My wife and I ordered two beers and spent a wonderfully quiet and relaxing time simply watching the trains go by. A truly fun and engaging touch: the cafe even provides little fans to wave and interact with the passing train travelers, who often wave back!

Getting to the Switchbacks Cafe is part of the adventure. You'll cross the tracks at a nearby road, then turn right and ascend a secluded set of stairs. A second, careful crossing of the tracks (don't worry, the trains move very slowly here, making it perfectly safe) leads you right to this charming spot.

Seems to be popular among train enthusiasts because you can see the Hakone Tozan trains passing right in front of you if you sit by the window. If you purchase food & drink above 500 yen, you can go to the terrace deck outside to see the train switch back up close if the timing is right.

線路沿いにあるカフェで、窓から電車が見えます。 箱根登山鉄道の大平台駅から徒歩5分程度の場所にあります。 駐車場も数台ですがあります。 駅から歩く途中、道のりが不安になりますが、googleライブビューの通りに来れば大丈夫。

先に注文をして席に着くシステム。 店内は2人席が3卓、カウンター7席ありました。 カウンターにはUSBとコンセントの電源があり自由に使えます。 Wi-Fiは無いです。

予約なしの10名の団体が入ってきて二階に上がって行ったので、席はもっとあるのかも知れません。 カウンターは窓の方を向いているので、走る電車がよく見えます。 すぐ近くにスイッチバックがありますが、店内からは見えません。

スイッチバックを見るには、スイッチバックデッキに出る必要があります。 スイッチバックデッキは、500円以上の注文をした人が入れるデッキです。 スイッチバックの三角地帯の部分がデッキになっています。 5人分程度の簡易な椅子が置いてあります。 こそに出るとスイッチバックが見えます。

お店の中は木の質感を生かした温かみのある内装で、店員さんも穏やか。 お客さんは常連さんが多い感じでした。 昨今話題になるような悪い撮り鉄の方はいなくて、みなさん上品な鉄道マニアといった感じで静かに電車を楽しんでおられ、安心して楽しめます。 店内の席は少ないけどお客さんも少なくて穏やかなので、ゆっくり電車を見ていられるお店でした。
