Matsuba Sushi — Restaurant in Higashiosaka

I was super lucky to stumble upon this sushi place that’s been around since 1951. No fancy décor, just a chill, local spot that feels super homey and welcoming. Most of the people eating there were regulars, so you know it’s the real deal!

The seafood here is seriously amazing — like, you can taste the ocean in every bite of fish. I went with the “omakase,” where the chef picks out the freshest stuff for you, and wow, the variety was awesome! The chef said the selection changes daily depending on what’s in season, so every bite was super fresh. And the best part? It’s only about 5000 yen for such high-quality sushi — totally worth it!

I also got a kaisen-don , and it was loaded with the freshest sashimi. The presentation was simple, but the colors popped, and the fish was melt-in-your-mouth good. Whether it was sushi or the rice bowl, everything was on point — perfect balance of color, aroma, and taste.😋

Only bummer? They’re cash-only and don’t take Alipay or WeChat Pay. But honestly, I think it’s just because it’s more of a local joint and they stick to old-school ways. Totally recommend bringing some yen and checking it out though!

The owner told me this place recently started accepting Alipay! Beauce he made some Chinese friends, and after their strong recommendations, he added Alipay as a payment option. He‘s really kind and I really hope this awesome sushi spot keeps getting...

We attended here as a group from Australia for a family dinner on the recommendation of my son who now lives in Japan.

It has a lovely family feel to it and the food was absolutely beautiful and freshest sushi I've eaten.

Service was friendly and very good value for money.

We also had the experience of sitting on mats for our meal.

I can highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

By far the best sushi I've had since I've lived in Japan, the fish was very fresh and tasty, the chef recommended me a couple of pieces of sushi that were really delicious.

The atmosphere was also very nice, the other customers were friendly and they also recommended me some dishes. Everyone was very friendly, I will definitely eat at this place...
