Cafe Yamanoko is a wonderful place for a meal or a break. Homemade healthy dishes, excellent desserts, coffee or local fresh apple juice. My wife and I had been touring around the area for hours and wanted to relax after a busy day and this was just what we were looking for. The remolded farmhouse is elegant and well designed and the service was friendly and professional making foreign guests feel welcome. We were staying near Iwaki shrine that night at a place with no meals so the late lunch was fantastic. I’m not sure exactly what we ate but it included fresh vegetables, tofu, rice with sesame salt, dumplings with savory meat and the soup was excellent. The course with drink and dessert was an exceptional value and worth the slightly higher price than usual for lunch. (I’ve paid two or three times the price for a similar meal in Tokyo) Reservations could be helpful on a weekend or holiday. There is free parking in the back of the restaurant or you can park at the Takateru shrine and walk 2min. Needless to say, I’ll be returning here later in the season and already planning to have a late lunch after...

By far the best coffee we had in Hirosaki. After hiking up to Iwaki Shrine the rain hit us and the very kind and friendly owner greeted us with freshly ground coffee and delicious cakes! Absolutely worth the trip!
