highly recommended if you're in the area! the people here are the nicest, and they served us one of the best meals we've had thus far in japan (that we went back another two times!) our favourite dishes:

若さぎフライ (wakasagi fry) - these are deep fried fishes served in a set meal with soup, rice, and side dishes. super yummy, one of our favs!

サバ (grilled saba) - saba fans, you must try this. no bones, salted to perfection! served as a set!

ざるうどん (zaru udon) - try this if you love udon. it's served cold with a dipping sauce, sliced spring onions, and grated ginger. very refreshing! (we can't get udon that tastes as good as this back home.)

鯉 (ko-i sashimi) - very fresh sashimi, we ordered this twice, haha! you can choose to have this ala carte or as a set.

天然鮎の塩焼きと鯉のあらいを頂きました。 養老渓谷は鰻が釣れると幼少の頃は聞いていたから、天然の鰻屋がたくさん並んでいるのかと思っていたのだがそんな風情の店はなく、やっぱりグルメサイト等で調べないとダメなのかな、とか、高級になり過ぎた鰻は都内に集中しちゃうのかとか考えながら空腹でさまよう。 食べログかなんかで、鰻屋を検索して行き着いたこのお店、入ったら鰻はメニューになかった… 気を取り直して、鮎の塩焼きと鯉のあらいを注文。鮎は天然の釣りとのこと。サイズが選べたので、稚鮎を少し大きくしたのを頼んだ。 天然は美味しい。焼き加減と塩もGood 添えてあったふきのとうの味噌漬けかと思ったら、聞いたらマヨネーズあえだったものが絶品でした。 鯉も美味しい。 感じのよいご夫婦でやられているお店 ロナ禍でめっきり観光客...
