I can see why this place gets very polarized reviews. Either people love it or hate it. Basically, if you make any request, however reasonable, if it upsets the cafe employee woman, she will yell at you. We got yelled at and it was for a very small thing. We sat down an ordered pancakes and ice cream. They said it would take 20 minutes. We said ok. Then 30 minutes had passed and we needed to go to our next destination to pick up some other food we had ordered earlier. So we asked the woman working there if we could box up the pancakes as take out and she got really upset and started yelling at my friend who speaks Japanese and was translating for us. She also would not let us pay the check until the pancakes were eaten. Honestly I think it's completely reasonable if food comes out later than promised to ask for take out instead. Even if the request is denied, no need to yell at someone. This is on par with other reviews where a request was made (e.g. to fill cyclist water bottles) and they yelled at them too. In short, don't make any requests and you'll probably have a...
Read moreDo not listen to other reviews claiming this place is “unwelcoming to cyclists.” This cafe is VERY welcoming to cyclists. We cycled Shimanami Kaido from Setoda to Imabari on a very wet rainy day and stopped here for lunch and to get out of the rain. The sweet Grammy came out to welcome us and usher us inside, where several tables worth of wet cyclists were taking refuge. We opted to sit outside under the covered patio, and despite the communication barrier (we speak limited Japanese) we were extremely well taken care of! She brought us hand towels to help dry off, and even offered to take our cycling water bottles in and fill them with ice. We both got pancakes, which were filling and delicious, along with hot tea which helped warm our insides. By the time we headed out we were dry and happy and ready to finish our ride. I highly recommend...
Read moreGreat food, cute atmosphere, strict service. When we came in, they tried to get us to sit outside even though there were two open tables indoors. I got the feeling that they prefer having cyclists stay outdoors. When we explained that it was too hot out there, they gave us a table inside. Our server was a very sweet old lady, although she had to get permission from the strict manager for everything. We ordered the chicken curry and fruit pancakes to share. The food was delicious. The homemade ice cream that the pancakes came with was divine. However, they were oddly frugal and strict with their cutlery and plates, despite us explaining that we wanted to share both dishes between the two of us. They were not open to me charging my e-bike battery. When I offered to pay, the answer was still a no....
