SUMIYOSHIMARU — Restaurant in Itoshima

Great oyster experience off the beaten track. We visited in October 2018, there are two huts one with charcoal and the other with gas barbecues, we could see the oysters being cleaned and prepared for cooking, the menu is extensive and there are also cooked foods on the menu too including our favourite deep fried oysters. The staff give you a yellow jacket and glove , watch out for spitting oysters, it’s all great fun. The menu is In English too, and the friendly staff really try to communicate in English also. 糸島の海沿いにある「住吉」さんに行ってきました。 港を見渡すロケーションが最高で、窓の外には穏やかな海と漁船、そして潮の香り。 この景色を眺めながら新鮮な牡蠣を焼いて食べる――それだけで贅沢な時間です。

店内はとても清潔で、広々とした空間。 木のテーブルやベンチがずらりと並び、どの席にもコンロとバケツが整然とセットされていて、 初めての人でも安心して楽しめるように丁寧に整えられています。 スタッフの方々は皆さん笑顔で親切、説明もわかりやすく、しかもお綺麗な方ばかり…（これは本当にポイント高いです！）。

肝心の牡蠣はというと、身がぷりっぷりで旨味がギュッと詰まっており、塩だけでも絶品。 エキストラバージンオリーブオイルやレモンで味変しても最高でした。 さらに帆立をバター醤油で焼いて、殻の上にご飯をのせて「即席ほたてバター飯」にすると、 香ばしい香りが広がり思わず笑顔に。 イカも新鮮で、火を通すほど柔らかく甘みが増し、こちらも絶品。

外は風が気持ちよく、店内は活気がありながらも落ち着いた雰囲気。 糸島の自然の中で、海の幸と人の温かさを同時に味わえる最高の牡蠣小屋です。 冬の糸島を訪れるなら、間違いなくここをおすすめします。 「また来年も来よう」と心から思える場所でした。

I visited Sumiyoshi Oyster Hut in Itoshima — a beautiful seaside spot with a calm ocean view right by the fishing port. You can enjoy grilling oysters while watching the boats and feeling the gentle sea breeze — it’s the perfect coastal escape.

The interior is spotless and spacious, with well-organized wooden tables, grills, and buckets prepared at each seat. Even first-time visitors will feel comfortable and welcomed. The staff are incredibly kind, attentive, and yes — absolutely beautiful too (can’t forget to mention that!).

Now, the oysters themselves — plump, juicy, and packed with umami. Just a pinch of salt brings out their natural sweetness, but adding a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil or a squeeze of lemon takes them to another level. The scallops grilled with butter and soy sauce are divine, and when you top the shell with rice, it turns into a heavenly “butter scallop rice.” The grilled squid was also tender and sweet, a true taste of freshness.

It’s the kind of place where you can taste both the richness of the sea and the warmth of the people. Peaceful, delicious, and full of life — a perfect representation of Itoshima’s charm. If you visit during oyster season, Sumiyoshi is a must. I’ll definitely be back...

Overall amazing experience, you can get fresh seafood to grill at very cheap prices giving you the luxury of eating these delicious foods without having to worry about the bill at the end 🤝 They also provide WiFi with YouTube videos to explain how to cook the different seafood on the grill!
