An absolutely wonderful little cafe!
The owner is such a friendly and kind man. I felt very welcome to be there. He took the time to explain everything in English while using a translation app. So even though the menu board is written in Japanese, he made sure to tell me about everything in such a polite way.
I ordered the cafe mocha and a slice of pie. The coffee was absolutely delicious with a rich, sweet taste. And it was served in a pottery cup made, as the owner explained, from Sakurajima lava! How fitting is that for atmosphere?
Speaking of atmosphere, the place is very small and everything is handmade, so it gives the experience the whole “at home”touch. It was so relaxing sitting on the deck on a beautiful, sunny morning while enjoying my coffee. It definitely felt like a peaceful escape from the daily grind. It looked like there may be indoor seating in a small back room but I’m glad the weather was fine enough for sitting outside.
The location is quite distant from the ferry terminal from Kagoshima City but there is a city bus that goes in that direction. However, if you come by car or are doing a cycling tour of the island, it would be an easy trip to make and a mistake to pass it by.
