Chingones Cantina Kin — Restaurant in Kin

Im a Mexican girl who was born & raised in San Diego who grew up eating nopales & pozole my grandmother would make. I feel like I know a little bit more about Mexican food than the average Joe.

I purchased the carne asada/California burrito, shrimp ceviche & a horchata.

-Horchata: 9/10, best horchata I’ve had outside San Diego but the size is small for the price so I knocked a point. -Burrito: 3/10, has the makings to be great but it wasn’t. The cheese they use a mix cheese of white & yellow- there shouldn’t be any white cheese and it should be all melted. They should be using sour cream versus the white cheese. Also, there were way more fries than meat, it should be the opposite. The burrito needed more pico de gallo. I also wish the tortilla was cooked more but that’s personally preference. -Ceviche: 7/10, the size was good but had more onion than anything else which I wasn’t a fan of. I also think they could have used more citrus (usually made with oranges). Overall it was good for Okinawa.

Strangely the tortillas for the birria taco tasted like the spiciest soggy ginger bread cookie, very unpleasant . Made everyone who ate it sick. A very odd choice of ingredients for Mexican food. The website says TACOS plural, the picture has 2 tacos but thankfully(since the taste was awful) the order came only 1. Also, it came with one disgusting birria soup for 6 people. 6/6 people who tried them literally could not finish the taco.

Edit: If you are insinuating that I have business partners to encourage me to write a negative review, then it would be fair for me to insinuate that you are encouraging partners to write embellished reviews. We're just some coworkers that were hungry for some tacos. As for my past orders, the food wasn't bad, just normal, at time served cold, but just normal. Always a treat going to Chingones. We love talking to the owners. They make you feel like family and not just a customer. We have tried both locations, but the Kin location is my favorite. Both locations have such amazing Mexican food, I have never had anything bad, from here. I was a little disappointed that they did not have nachos. So I decided to try the Dirty Chicken burrito for the first time. It was amazing, the chicken had such a great flavor.
