Curry Cafe Franklyn — Restaurant in Kitanakagusuku

The moment you walk in, you are transported back in time to the era of the 1920s, with Big Band vinyl records playing on the record player, finished wood shelves, tables, and wall art, era-appropriate light fixtures, and an overall cozy home atmosphere. The view overlooking the ocean and the hillside is marvelous, and honestly the atmosphere/vibes alone are reasons enough to come here!

Everything here is homemade--the tonkatsu is thick with a supple layer of fat on top, with solid breading that unravels easily as it scrapes across the rice. The curry, poured from a Gravy Boat, is also a homemade roux that is excellent in its simplicity and overall quality. What is fun most about this restaurant is seeing how each tonkatsu order is made after you order it, and listening to the old music from their extensive vinyl collection brings a sense of old-timey nostalgia to make the meal relaxing...

This place was all around an experience! It's limited seating and parking- best for couples or solo travelers. We went for a late lunch during the week after visiting nearby castle ruins so it was perfect with only one other couple there. The service was wonderful and friendly. The views of the ocean were beautiful. The Franklyn beef curry and pork cutlet curry were both OUTSTANDING! We also got a small side of the fried chicken to try with the curry and it was even better together! The serving dishes and napkins were so beautiful and they elevated our entire meal. Cute little retro curry shop tucked in a fairly residential and hilly estate. Parking was tricky as it was limited but the food and hospitality made up for it. We got the beef bowl and baked Doria along with house made sodas. Wished the doria had a better balance of curry to rice (ours didn’t have much curry to start with) and it would have been perfect. The salad sauce was amazing and pickles were good to balance out the meal.
